Hello,
Today I received my newly ordered Summilux 35mm 1.4 ASPH. Before I mounted the lens on my M I noticed that the aperature ring is a bit "lose." Namely, there is some movement both along it center axis and laterall. It soesn't have that "tight" fit and feel that focus ring has on the same lens. Is this supposed to be normal on Leica lenses?
Compared to my Leica lens, my CV Ultron has a much better feel across the board. The aperature and focusi rings are nice and tight an aperature ring is much quieter as well (id doesn't click so "loud" as Summilux.)
thanks

My Summicron 50's aperture ring is also looser than the focus ring. However, it still "clicks" into each 1/2 stop with confidence so I'm not so concerned. Compared, to my CV 35mm lens, the Leica aperture ring's clicks are a bit louder.

Is this lens new, or used? I know you said it's newly ordered, but not sure whether that means it's been pre-owned. I'm asking because that doesn't sound right to me, so you may be experiencing that due to previous owner's abuse; I don't know.

I also have the CV Ultron, and it is pretty solid. I also have a number of Leica lenses, including the 50mm Summilux pre-asph, and the aperture ring is very solid and smooth. Doesn't sound like you can blame it on the MN weather (it's only been "cold" enough here in the TC for a few days in the last week) to explain that part.

If it's new, then I'd return it and ask to get it replaced. Sorry, it's a bummer.

Hi there,
This is a brand new lens. I ordered it earlier this week and I must say it came well packaged, so I wouldn't blame shipping and handling. The seller (whom I am not going to name - yet) agreed to take it back but I am going to take it to the National Camera and Video, here in the Twin Cities and have them check it out tomorrow. If this is a persisent problem with Summilux lenses, I must say that it is really annoying. This little rattle and forward-backward movement along the lens barell is annoying to say the least (if not completely un-reassuring). In any event it appears that a number of Leica users had similar problem. Will see if the replacement lens has the same problem.
Thanks
