Lost another Leica!

Yes, it is true. I have had my second Leica stolen. M6 classic, 35/2 summicron, 50/2 summicron, 90/2 summicron, Leica polarizer, several series 1 yellow filters and a green Tenba camera bag.
My first Leica was a CL with 40/2 summicron was removed from my vehicle while I was picking up my kids at the YMCA (out of the car for 5 min.), my M6 kit was removed from my truck, in my driveway a couple days ago. I've been twice bitten!
Many will question why I left either in my vehicle, I have asked myself the same. The truth is I always carry it with me, I'm always looking for an opportunity to use it. In the case of my M6, I picked my boys up and ran in to cook dinner that night, the truck was locked. The thief jammed a screwdriver into my keyhole and jacked the lock, ransacked my glovebox and console and of course found the camera under the seat.
To say that things are pretty sucky in my life would be an understatement right now. This camera had kinda grown on me, I had saved a while to get it and now it's gone. Anger has lead to disbelief, disbelief to a sick kind of sorrow and the realization that I don't own it anymore.
I am sure that the individual that helped himself to my stuff didn't/doesn't know what he has, I am sure that it will be sold for pennies on the dollar to support a possible drug habit. My only hope is that while he is heating up the rock of crack that he traded for my camera, it dislodges into his throat and explodes with such force that he creates his own tracheotomy, then realizing his evil ways finds Jesus and is then compelled to repent of his sins and brings my camera back, b@st@rd!
I wanted to post this days ago but everytime I tried to type it I felt sick, man this sucks!
Maybe it's time for me to take a hiatus from photography for a couple weeks or so, just shut it down and see where things go.
Anyway, thanks for letting me "vent" a little!

Todd

This is terrible Todd, I really feel for you. :( Also it's not just the things themselves but all the time you put in learning about them and getting just the ones you wanted. The stuff becomes a part of you.

I really worry about losing my gear sometimes and it's gotten to the point that I've insured it as a rider to the homeowners insurance. Register your gear as stolen, there is more than one web site I think that lists serial #'s of Leica gear. You never know...

I am shocked! All those fine gears stolen! Did you copy down the serial number of the Leica body and lenses? You could post them at Leica so that others who bought it will know it is stolen goods and report to the authorities. Yes I can understand your feeling right now as I have too suffered indignation not too long ago. Just take sometime off to do something else, go for a fishing trip or something. I will pray for you that somehow those equipment will eventually be found. Just remember to carry your photography equipment all the time in the future. I really wish I have 5 minutes with that sub-human who pinched your stuff!

Horrible news Todd!

I know how it feels to have your car broken into. Happened to me 4-5 times now.

Absolutely terrible and I feel really sorry for you buddy!

I'm sure you've already considered this, but I would contact your homeowner's insurance carrier. The gear would be covered under the terms of my policy and likely yours as well.

Todd, I am so sorry to hear this. Such beautiful equipment and you've been doing wonders with it. Words are inadequate ... I am grieving with you ...

That's disgusting b@st@rd! I feel sorry for you Todd. I cannot imagine how angry I would be if I lost a Leica set up like yours.

Maybe there is a little bit of luck that brings your Leica back? Now I'm seriously considering of buying insurance for my gear.

Once again, sorry to hear that Todd.

And today I was thinking of the gorgeous 'cron 90/2 you got not long ago... :( I am very truly sorry for your loss (because it's a loss!).

I wish, I really wish I could say something better, but to be quite honest, I share your wishes for a painful death for the bastard who broke into your truck.

May he burn in hell...

Now... have you called the pawnshops in town? Chances are he's left the camera in one of them. Please, try...

Feel sorry about that. It know how it feels. I happened to have water poured on my cameras a few times. It really hurts.

man that totally sucks!

i wont offer advice cause nothing helps in times like these. i had my jeep stolen a few years back and i know that sick, i can't f***ing believe it feeling you have.
time will heal and you know that you got over the cl loss but right now - it's just a lousy thing to have happen to you.

i wish i could say or do more...

gosh that's really terrible!! I'm really sorry to hear about this todd, but take heart tho, no matter whichever basta*** steal how many of your stuff, they can never steal your skills, talent or eye for photography and that in itself is the most precious thing.

Really hope you catch that fella soon!

Todd, I'm really sorry to hear those bad news.
I know how you must feel - my Nikon I loaned to my brother was stolen from his van a couple of months ago. It was his only camera, which he really enjoyed.
But, it was nowhere near the value of your kit.
As weak as it may seem in the way of consolation, at least you took some great photos with it.
As others said, be sure to report the serial numbers to all pawn shops in town, and perhaps you could at least partially recover the loss through home insurance policy.
Arrrrrgh, what a blow!

My sympathies,

Denis

Unbelievable. Well, they may have stole your camera Todd, but that doesn't mean the captured your talent. I am looking forward to when you start shooting again, I am sure everyone is.

I hope you were insured! Unbelievable! This could not have been random; somebody new you were in the photography business.

Sorry, Todd.
The biggest thing I ever had stolen from me are three bicycles...all in one week... Didn't use a bike for a month after that! But that's nuthin' compared to your gear.

:( :( :(

If it was reported to the police (and I hope you did), they should notify all local pawn shops, and more hopefully, based on its value, put it in NCIC. Quite often, fences trade stuff out of state to beat local pawn shop checks, but sometimes NCIC catches it.

:( :( :(
