Lost another Leica!

Wow, what a run of bad luck your having. Sorry.
Check your local pawnshops quickly see if it turns up there.
Check Ebay and see if it turns up there too.
I would look into an alarm for the truck also.
I have one on my car and would not buy one without it.
 
This is another reminder, I need to do some organizing of my stuff today and I am going to be sure that I list the serial numbers of all my equipment.

I'm sorry to hear about your Leicas getting stolen! That is truly awful. I hope you have some good luck come your way, hopefully in the form of a good bargain on a camera! I'm sure we'd all like to see you shooting pictures again a.s.a.p.

Many years ago I purchased a Leica at a pawn shop in Austin. After I paid to have it refurbished, the police contacted me and asked me to check for some identifying marks on it. Turned out it had been stolen 3 years before in a burglary. The owner had reported it, but had tranposed two of the SN digits so it didn't surface in the initial pawn shop check. Apparently the Austin police get a SN report of any new intakes at local pawn shops and had just gotten the ability to run a comparison on stolen property SN's. When they sold it to me, they had to make a second report, this time with the correct SN. It surfaced in a routine check two months later. I turned the cameraover to the police who returned it to therightful owner. The pawnshop had to refund my purchase price and the rightful owner reimbursed me for the work I had paid to do on his improved camera. All this was back in 1984. The ability to check SNs should be a lot better today.

You might want to check at Camera Co-Op of Houston on Alabama and Shepherd and at Camera Exchange on Richmond (west of the Galleria) They buy a lot of used equipment. Take your polic report with you.

Also, the guys are right about insurance. In Texas a burglary from a car is covered under the standard homeowner's insurance policy. Just be sure to just file only the big claims and not insignificant ones because if you file more than one in a 24 month period, they can cancel your policy.

An outrageous violation of your personal space, insult heaped upon the injury of the actual loss!

I know how it feels. A few years ago our 6-month-old pickup was stolen while we were gone on vacation. Thieves put 2300 miles on it, but then abandoned it and it was recovered. As all the damage was being repaired, several of our friends asked what we'd get to replace it. They assumed that keeping it would be a constant reminder of the outrage and violation. But we'd gotten fond of the vehicle, it had served us better than we'd expected, and it "deserved" a good home and care!

When/if you get your Leica gear back, hopefully your insurance will cover CLA for all components! Good luck....

What if the thief ebays it? I wouldn't count on recovering it these days. In Los Angles CA there would be no hope. Maybe Texas is different.
 
Thanks for all the support guys, I am checking pawn shops, ebay and such. Yeah it really sucks but in the big picture, Leica or not, it's just "stuff" right? (Now if I can just convince myself of that).

Todd, if it can be of any help, take a look at the two photos of my gear posted in the thread "Withdrawal symptoms" in general discussion forum.
You can have any one you like from the second photo for the cost of postage (except the Yashica Lynx :)). It will at least keep you shooting until you either get yours back or find another one (or, until another one finds you).
Or, if you like anything from the first photo, send me a pm.

Thank you for your generous offer, I still have a few nice fixed lens rangefinders, in fact several of the RFF members have come forward and made such offers, this place is unbelievable! We come together here to discuss our interest in a particular type of camera, but you cannot avoid the genuine feelings of (for lack of a better word) compassion and kindness. Is it possible we all were lead to this place, kind of a destiny if you will? Whatever the reason, I am glad to be here among an understanding group of guys, thanks again!

i'm not surprised that you have had offers from some of these guys.
they, you, are a great bunch!!

i have had & accepted some offers when i have been looking for 'stuff' also.

we can experience some horrible things in our own backyards yet people from across the world will step in and offer kindness.

kinda crazy that it takes the 'anonomous web' to pull people together.
it sure does help to renew this sometimes cynical guy's hope.
