I lost a couple of hundred "digital" negatives when a some old CDs became unreadable. Sadly, the places I photographed have since been torn down. The Kodak and Fuji slides from 1979 up to I switched to digital are still viewable. Lesson learned. I used to carry two cameras, one color film and one B&W. Now, one is digital and one is film.
