Love my Nikon F

DSCF9486.jpg

My garage sale Nikon F. It originally came with the Photomic Prism which I still have but it looks so much cleaner with the plain prism...
I've had it maybe two years now and it is one smooth camera...😀

agreed! i just took the exact same combination out for a shoot today. got a similar combination for my f2 and f3hp. each has its own character and are special in their own way

but the pleasure from the f and f2 are pretty hard to describe

Got my first F last month, with the F-36 drive, and an FTn finder. Probably had the eye level finder when it departed the factory, and some day I'll get one for it. Still trying to get the drive to work, and rewired the battery pack. Most likely I'll get a plain back, so I don't have to mess with the drive anymore. It came with a 50/2, and I have a 35/3.5 and 200/4 to go with it. Those originally were for my F2, which I don't use enough. But if nothing else, the F will make for a nice display until I can get a decent one.

If they'd been Russian copies, you could have called it a troika. That's a nice line-up, Tom. Where did you get the black AR-2?

After much searching for 'that camera' I settled with a Nikon F with the 50mm f/1.4.
It just feels 'right'. I played around with some of the more harder to find lenses and accessories for the F, but let them go after a while (for moneh!). I used to have a 5.8cm lens, and while it is pretty nice, it performs pretty much the same as the later 50mm.

Oh - if you ever see a 'eye' flag or button black photomic head grab one - they are hard to come by!

The black AR-2 is a remake that I found in Tokyo some years ago. I am pondering the possibility to redesign it and make some myself. Needs a domed top - and I always wanted internal spring-load on it. One day - maybe.

Pick up this one last year at an antique mall...it came with the DL-1
The meter and light both work just fine...I have an F body but it's too early for this prism to fit...

I got me a chrome early F and a black Apollo F and a black F2 and an F3 and all black FE, FM2n, FM3A, and FA and I look at 'em every day and they make me happy. I shoot with them too. I've now equipped the F's with all F-era lenses (28/3.5-HC, 50/1.4-S, 50/2-S, Micro-Nikkor 55/3.5 Auto, 85/1.8-H, 105/2.5-P Sonnar, and 135/2.8-QC) and to me this is liike owning a '64 Astin Martin.

My little friend

Mine is an old black beater with a DE-1 meterless finder, and F36 drive attached most of the time.
It is usually paired with a Nikkor 180 2.8 which I schlepp when I'm shooting with my rangefinders, to give me some extra reach.
While it is a bit quirky, and requires more hands than I was born with to unload and load easily on the run, it is nonetheless basic transportation and has essentially everything I need in a camera.

Ha ha! I'm glad to see, that the german word "schlepp" from "schleppen" -> carrying something heavy, had found its way into the english language.

Via Yiddish, I am told. It is more common in the American language than in English.

Cheers,

R.

At least, in Austria it is a common word. For example: I schlepp me to death (Ich schlepp mich zu Tode) "Schlepper" are those People who help refugees to cross the border illegaly.
