My Nikon Fs

Here are my 5 Nikon Fs. The three on the left are fitted with 50mm f2, 35mm f2 and 105mm f2.5 lenses.
The prisms use the glass from Photomic prisms but with the chassis cut down and
new covers made for them. They function perfectly and only cost around £15 each.
The two on the right have the mirror boxes removed and are adapted to mount LTM lenses. The rear one is for wide angle lenses with an accessory viewfinder and the front one is work in progress and is intended to have a coupled rangefinder. The Nikon F lends itself to modifications as it is quite a simple camera.

Removed the top leatherette due to the horrid 70's glue someone used for repairs. Looks alright as it is though now, I might not bother with a replacement.

Also early meter markings only 50mm f/1.4.

You could just paint it flat black and still remove the paint if you would not like it.

The all chrome top is starting to grow on me now. It reminds me of the chrome OM-1.

In early 1970 I had no girl friend but each month a black/silver book from TimeLife about photography. The most displayed cam was the NikonF.

At the same time the war in Vietnam was very close here in Europe thanks to PJs with NikonFs, the Kalashnikows in photography.
The F and the pics from it helped to stop this war and therefor this camera I had to buy. Just only money for the body but in my dreams I made already pics like Capa or Cartier-Bresson.......🙄

When the 50 mm Nikkor f2 arrived one or two months later, my first pic was one of my best over a 40 years span.....

making pics in Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin, Belfast, London and my home town the F together with the 50mm and a cheap 28mm Soligor was like dancing in the streets.
Only two lenses, a leather pouch from a friend an swift feet - the pics jumped into the cam without any efforts - magic......

There aren't so much cameras which ruled the market in the different formats but in case of 24x36 the F was the nail in the coffin for the european maker including Leica........
