Is it really noisy focusing like the 35mm? It is crazy they don't make all these lenses silent AF ... like the 18-55 ...If anyone has any questions about the lens, how it operates, etc don't hesitate to ask!

I can't compare to the 35 because I've never used or owned the 35. I had the 18mm before and I've noticed a slight difference in noise & AF, being that the 27 seems snappier and a tad bit quieter IMO.
The 27mm seems quieter than the 35mm...

The 18-55 zoom is so quiet it is sometimes hard to hear the af motor at work. If one compares it to the 27, it will sound pretty loud. On the other hand, it is quieter then the 35.
I wonder if the 55-200 has the same quiet af motor?
Outdoors as Joe mentioned, w/ normal ambient noise, pretty hard to hear it, but in those same places I think I could still hear the 35, if I remember correctly.

Love hearing about this lens, so keep posting images and impressions!
I think I'll hold off until the 23 is released, but I'm thinking the discreteness of the 27 + the versatility of the 18-55 is an incredible combo.

The 23/1.4 will be much larger. Yet I am waiting for the 23 as well. I guess I like the 14, 18,23, 35 lens kit better. I can see buying a used 27 in a year or so. I do like the idea that people will think you don't have a serious camera just because of it's size.
Obviously this is completely subjective and I'm sure photographers have been discussing the virtues of lens' kits for many decades.

Exactly... I was thinking the same thing. Last night I was setting up a old Sony nex 3 that I am planning to semi-permanently loan to a friend. He can keep it as long as he wants.
U had forgotten how nice it is to use a camera w/ a flip screen. I actually don't mind LCD only since I got used to it on the rx100 and dp Merrill cameras.
I was thinking xm1 w/ 27 would be a great setup just for that reason.
