Just pulled the trigger on one of these for £60 inc postage.
I'm sure the results, provided the glass is ok, will be excellent.
Question: How easy for the novice to strip and clean?

Very. Front just unscrews by hand (in order to use on a Visoflex, I'm told). Three or four elements in three groups. Soft coatings (if coated), so use care in cleaning.

But it wasn't a fat one — or a slim chrome one —, was it?
No. It is a fat-ish (but not fat enough to be classed as "fat") black painted one - hence the price

It is a very simple lens but the ring retaining the front element can resist being undone after all these years.

Hi,
It may be easy to strip and clean but you ought to be worrying about how easy it is to re-assemble...

Of course. That too……..Hi,

Actually, it looks like the same design as my later 90mm M Elmar, in which case the end should screw off fairly easily. That allows me easy access to the back element. I'll leave the internals alone I think.

Arrived today. What a lovely thing. It's titchy too. The period description from Leica says it is three inches long and weighs ten ounces, which seems about right. I've dated it at 1937. After a quick check it looks good. The optics seem clearish, the focussing and iris move as they should, and the rangefinder couples ok.
Ive given the front and back optics a quick clean, cleaned the metalwork a bit, and taken a couple of test shots. I'll post them when the film is finished. I will comment that it slows the use of the 111c down - something I'd thought impossible!
Nice lens if it works ok. Cheap enough to take a punt on if it didn't, and I can always send it off for a CLA. Win-win
.
On reflection, after having the lens in my possession for a few hours, I think I'll send it off for a professional CLA sometime soon.
