LTM lenses on M body

When I had my M systems initially I had them both M lenses but over time I migrated to a mix of LTM and M lenses. I did not worry about the lenses being slightly off, never made a problem. I mostly used Leica adapters, with a few CV ones. My lenses were CV and Nikkor. Each lens had it's own adapter as I prefer changing lenses with a bayonet mount rather than the old LTM approach.

I just had to double-check that it isn't 1st.April today. I suppose this is the same sort of problem as the image being upside down if you get a second-hand view-camera . . . ?

No joke. Most lenses project a circular image, cropped by the film gate. Some super-wide angle lenses, the 15mm heliar included, project a rectangular image (that's why they're called rectilinear) If the lens isn't lined up with the film gate, the image will be tilted. In an extreme case, you might clip the corners. In my case, the misalignment is on the order of one degree or less. Not a problem for me, but if it were, I'd just crop it level.

I use a Leica SM to M adapter (90mm M2/M3) when I use the heliar on my M3, so I'm pretty sure it's within tolerance, but even if it weren't the depth of field would take care of it on this lens in particular.

I think the mis-alignment issue is mostly a matter of preference. It doesn't bother me at all, but YMMV.

I once let a fellow photo student borrow my TLR, they shot 1 roll with it and gave it back because "The viewing screen was on backwards." It wasn't until later that I realized they meant the L/R inversion of the image on the ground glass. 😉

got the feedback from the dealer...according to what he said its pretty comment, and guess what happen? Apart from the 15/4.5, now I have the 12/5.6 & an exact adaptor with me, when I switch the 2 adaptor, i.e. the new one to the 15 and the old one to the 12, result is much better and now I leave it both with the lens forever 🙂

Re the lens called "rectilinear lens", my believe is to tell its opposite to a fish eye instead of projecting a rectangular image, since the aperture & all lens element are all in circle... only problem to my concern is the 15's hood is fixed so it may cause the problem when its not aligned properly with the film gate
