LTM to M adapter

Not really a method as such. Just screw it in tight. Biggest problem usually occur when you try to remove the adapter from the M-mount. The older back caps (and the ones for Zeiss ZM lenses have these little "prongs" that can be fitted to the adapter and used to undo it.
I you dont have to much worry about your nails - you can also grab the lens and put a nail into the "opening" of the adapter and push it towards the unlock position. I find that I usually unscrew the lens and use the back-cap to undo the adapter though and then just screw the lens back on. Not that fast a process though.

Another LTM to M question

I have several LTM lenses of various focal lengths. Is there a single adapter for them, or must I have different adapters for each focal length.

This depends on your cam.
Iif it is a Leica (not sure about the Zeiss Ikons) the adapter selects the frame in the viewfinder.
With a Bessa or R-D1 you can use one adaptor for all lenses, as you have to select the frame manually.

I test a lot of LTM lenses with different mounts at the local camera shops before buying.
This is therefore a usual thing, to deal with (how to best unmount a LTM lens with adapter).

Here is what I do:

I never squeeze the LTM adapter manly tight, as possible on the LTM lens.
If all contact surfaces are plane, clean and properly finished without tents and damages + the thread is good, it is absolutely enough, to screw the adapter on hand tight ("handfest" - "Nach fest kommt ab!" ;-) )

When unmounting the adapted lens, I first push the lens release button and hold it with the left thumb.

I then grab the lens base with my right hand and unmount it.

If I unscrew the lens from the adapter, I simply turn the lens back a bit tighter and repeat.

Don't fumble with unscrewing the LTM lens and trying, to unmount the adapter.

Whew. Hadn't thought about that, I'm glad I still had one of the old caps here, I had an adapter badly stuck into a rear cap. Thanks, Tom!!
