Leica LTM LTM wide angle recommendations

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
If you want to start hunting for something 35mm and a bit special take a look at this:

This is an early 35mm 2.8 Summaron in M mount...but...if you unscrew the little grubscrew seen to the right of the M mount, the M mount unscrews leaving a ltm thread beneath.

Herewith on black IIIa with rare 'Swallow' finder.

The FL version of the Canon 19/3.5 -- wasn't there two versions of the FL version? (aside from the LTM and FD versions). I found one a few years back (it was an FL version) for decent price, but it seemed huge to me. I looked online and found images of the FL lens that were smaller. Thats when I think I learned of 2 FL versions....

Also, the Canon Adapter B will fit FL and FD lenses to LTM. I have one. But, it will not usefully fit FDn lenses. It will allow them to physically fit, but the lens aperture will be stuck at wide open.

I got my Adapter B in a box of photo trinkets for $5. There was also special filter adapter ring for the Canon 19/3.5 in the box. I foolishly left it behind with the seller because I figured I would never use such a thing.

IIRC, one can (de)activate the pin in question manually?

And: Canon sold, for bellows-retro-use of these lenses, a special tiny (plastic?) thingy, but I'm quite sure, it does work without it, if one isn't chicken-hearted ;)

Really nice photos Kuuan, especially on the Ricoh. With the crop factor that would be 37.5mm?

thank you traveller and right, angle of view x1.5. ( this is not at all to say that the corners of the 4/25 are weak. On the Sony A7 they are, but it's the fault of the camera )
The combination with the Ricoh performs very well indeed. So do the Voigtlaender f1.5/15 and 4/21 but the 4/25 possibly is the best performing lens of the three.

I'd bet that this lens will become / already is highly collectible. Something like a limited run coin with a special mint mark?

looks like this.

Gorgeous kit! OI really like the tan leatherette on the camera.

I recall several years ago I traded a Zeiss Ikon Icarex camera w/ rare and sought after triplet (!) standard lens for a Canon *Converter B* ... Where did you find it? How much did you pay?

I found several on e-bay, ranging from original box & literature for $80 to no box / no caps / no literature for $35.

The example I grabbed had both caps, and was wearing some sort of Leitz LTM>M adapter, for $40 BIN.

Perhaps not the bargain of the century, but I'm comfortable with it.

Since I got my 28mm Avenon, I've hardly been using my (incomplete, cobbled up) kit of 21mm Color-Skopar, 25mm Snapshot Skopar lens hood and cracked 21mm Contaflex finder. Original front cap, no rear cap.

Willing to let go to you for a fair price lxmike. Drop me a line at contact (at) johanniels (dot) com.

Back to the symmetrical (*non-retrofocus*) SLR ultra wide lenses you can quite easily adapt to LTM -- on collectiblend one can find some actual prices, at least the Nikon and the Minoltas are listed there:

http://collectiblend.com/Lenses/Nikon/21mm-f4-Nikkor-O-(Nikon-F).html
(It's a bit overrated, IMHO.)

http://collectiblend.com/Lenses/Minolta/21mm-f4-W.Rokkor-QH.html

http://collectiblend.com/Lenses/Minolta/21mm-f4.5-W.Rokkor-PL.html

(Both quite underrated, and the latter one should read *W.Rokkor-PI*.)

The non-retrofocus lenses usually will not fit digital Leica cameras. The rear glass hits the sensor.

many thanks a line of inquiry coming your way

Hmmm.... the Canon FL 19mm / FD 17 mm SLR lenses are not exactly cheap...

Seem to run in the same price range as the CV LTM wide-angles... or higher...

I would not now buy a costly SLR lens to be used with a RF camera when the cost is high. I happen to own since many years quite a few SLR lenses, so I use them with my Leica cameras with an adapter. It works best with wide angel lenses. From the Canon FD line I have:

7.5mm/5.6
17mm/4
24mm/2.8
28mm/2

All would work with Adapter B on ltm or M cameras. Since these lenses are retrofocus in design, they can be used well with Leica digital cameras too.

I paid $375 for mine with 19mm SLR Canon finder, but you would have to be patient to find a deal like that.............

I will second the 21mm F4 Rokkor - GH. I use one on my Minolta SLR mirror lockup bodies, and it's really a good lens. Not as much $$$ as the Canon. Stephen Gandy has a writeup on the lens on his website.

The Minolta 21mm replaced my Canon 19mm for wide shooting and I'm happy with it. On a Minolta SLR it's about like shooting with a superwide rangefinder lens. I did buy a Yashica SLR 21mm finder to use with it, it's also on Stephen's webpage.
