Lube an 85/1.9 LTM. Very stiff focus.

How should I go about this? I'm not terribly scared to start fiddlin' around myself, but any tips I could get would be nice. It is the all chrome version (I think there was a black one anyway).

The only thing I am not really sure about is what exactly I should lube it with. I prefer to do as little disassembly as possible, so please let me in on that side of it as well.

Ken Ruth, Photography at Bald Mountain, has recommended vacuum pump oil for lubing lenses--it's extremely stable. Whatever you use, use as little as possible and apply it with a tiny brush, being careful to avoid getting any grease or oil anywhre but the helicals.

I have that! Was wondering how it would be. Actually is Vacuum Pump Grease, made not to outgas in a low-pressure environment. Figured that may slow down hazing.

Excellent idea, Brian. Unfortunately, nothing in life is ever as easy as it seems. I was very confident that I had everything back together correctly, until I put it on the M3. Doh!!! I currently have one more paper weight; just what I didn't need. I'll have to play with it again tomorrow.

Got it! I had some time today to play with the lens again, and with a little deductive reasoning, I've got it back together and focusing properly. I haven't seen any negs from it yet, but later tonight I'll soup 'em. I'm sure they are gonna be fine, as everything aligns correctly on lens and through the viewfinder.

I'll post to the repair forum later. It's a pretty easy job, but I'll have to include photos I guess so things make more sense. The reason I had a tough time putting it back together is because I took it apart more by accident than by design. With a good grip and twist, you can get at this lens, including the aperture blades, very easily.
