I just received my case from Luigi. Had to go to the post office but well worth it. All I can say is WOW! This is truly the work of a passionate craftman. If I could only show you in person you would probably hit me on the head and take the case. This is incredible! WOW WOW WOW. Its the perfect case for the perfect camera (MP) 😀

I've looked at his cases a number of times - mainly for the M6/M3 but also for the IIIc/f as well.

Everyone who's ever made a purchase from him says it's well worth it.

How long did shipping take for you Jorge?

Cheers
Dave

I cannot decide which kind of [half] case to get.. black, gray, aged brown, tan, green.. 🙁

Colour is a personal preference ... I personally went for the brown case as I want to age it myself 🙂 Looks nice on both black and chrome camera bodies.

I can only agree to this 🙂 Did you get a battery case as well? I once asked Luigi to make a case for the taller M7 batteries. The case can hold 1 set for M7, but it would mean 2 sets for the MP 🙂

I might be a little skeptical of a glowing endorsement by the owner of a site where Luigi advertises 😀 But I've seen his cases and they are very nicely done. Just not enough better than the genune Leica ERC cases I got, which I use as half-cases for actual shooting, and which cost me from $25-50 each. BTW mine are the ones which snap over the strap lugs so removing them to change film is...a snap. If my priorities were such that I would spend $4000 on a new Leica, I'd probably also be one to pay what Luigi wants for his cases.

Its a blck case with the built in grip. Not really an endorsement but more of a, this is an aewsome case. I like the strap a lot better than the rubber shoulder killer strap that comes with the MP.

I'll take this opportunity to chime in as well.

Thanks Luigi for the beautiful case! I ordered the new style half case that has the built-in strap so that there is nothing on the lugs. The camera is very firmly held in the case. Aged brown. Looks very sweet indeed. The workmanship is outstanding. I ordered on Christmas morning and got it right after New Year.

Granted, you have to consider this a luxury item for your camera but if you can afford it, it is worth the money.

A question for Ben----where do you do you get your genuine Leica M6 half cases for $25---50? I'd love to find one.

Please let us know and thanks!

Paul

I have a brown one for my M6, the version that accepts the camera with a plastic grip already attached. Loved it so much I bought a black one for the M3....they look and feel fantastic, and smell even better when you lift it to shoot.
One warning, if ordering for an M3 make sure you check if you have the 'Buddha ear' lugs directly on the side of the camera, or the forward leaning round lugs. Luigi will build to suit, just a slight modification, but "fit" is everything....the cases mold to your camera like an expensive Italian shoe.
And if you're lucky, as a second time buyer I got a bunch of Luigi's old "Leicatime" sales pamphlets from the sixties in Italian, fascinating stuff, along with the beautiful box and keychain. Not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for, and nothing's too good for my babies!

Well, I'll chime in. Received my Luigi half-case the other day and they are just about perfection. I keep muttering about the house,

"M6 en bustier ..."

"Dark and lovely ..."

Thank you, Luigi. And yes, even the packing box is exquisite with its Barnack smiling at me.

I am certifiably over the top now. I've got no restraint left. Thank god I'm out of funds.

For those with the oh-so-good-smelling Luigi cases.. I got one a couple months ago and am in the majority about it's quality! When it comes time to clean/condition it, what do you guys use? How often? I have a couple scuffs (would have been scratches on the body if it wasn't there!). I need proper quality leather care 101. 😀

Any leather conditioner/cleaner should be just fine. Lexol is a brand that has been well trusted in leather care for many years. Their products are usually available at places that carry fine leather products (jackets, boots, etc). Start with a cleaner, then finish with a conditioner (which rehydrates the leather and keeps it looking good). I personally have not used Lexol, but I have friends that are auto-detailing enthusiasts (as am I) that love it. If its good enough for the leather in a $90,000 Mercedes, its good enough for a $200 camera case. As far as how often, it shouldn't need cleaning and conditioning too often. Once every few months should suffice.

Now onto a question of my own, and the reason I bumped up this week old thread. I'm thinking of getting a case from Luigi for one of my babies. I'm not sure which color I want, though. On one hand, black is classic, discreet, and subtle. On the other hand, something like aged brown would make it look like its an old camera in an old beat up case, and nobody will really pay any attention to it. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I overanalyzing this? Sometimes I feel like a target with an expensive camera around my neck, but then other times I feel most thieves wouldn't give me a second look because its not a big, modern DSLR.

Hey perhaps Jorge or someone who has dealt with Luigi could consider asking him, as a RFF sponsor, to donate a case for Joe's Zeiss Ikon RF???

If you have access to a tack shop/saddlery, you'll find more excellent leather care products than you can shake a stick at. I like Lexol personally.

I have one of the original "never ready cases." Is there an intelligent way to remove the top half and only use the bottom half? I have only just started using an M3 (for that matter, it is my first real camera), but have already decided that I dislike the case enough so that I don't use it. Instead I got one of the Rina cases from Artisan & Artist, which is somewhat overpriced (since it is basically a cosmetics bag) but fits the camera too perfectly and does what I wanted too well to pass up. The M3 now lives in my purse so I can take pictures whenever I want.

I guess I don't really care if the camera eventually gets banged up (I am not interested in resale value) but this thread is making me wonder if it needs more protection when it is actually hanging around my neck. I am just using a cloth strap.

Jorge--I want to place an order for a Luigi case but--can't find his email or how to do it. Where do I find his email? Thanks!

Melanie--I have one of the cases for the M3. Was in not-so-good condition when I got it. So I just cut the stiching between the halves and it works fine.
