I recommend Luigi without a moment's hesitation. I have the full case in 'rally'. It is beautifully made and functional too. It protects my camera exceptionally well and oddly, for such an ostentatiously expensive accessory, it has the effect of making the camera look old-fashioned and therefore unattractive to potential villains.

As others have said, Luigi is also great to do business with.

I have been using the Artist & Artist small leather case for three years now starting with my M6 and moving up to an M8 and now the 8.2. I use it as my main case and carry the camera with an f2.8 28mm Elmarit (usually on the camera) and a 90mm f2.8 Elmarit. I usually have two card holders (exposed and unexposed), two batteries, a couple of filters, lens brush, and a small notebook. It has been perfect for me. In a larger Tamarac I carry my other lenses and the charger. (I leave that in the car or just carry the charger in my suitcase if I travel.

Lately I have been trying to use the smallest outfit I can carry that has my basics. After each trip I write down what I used and what stayed in the bag. That way I slowly arrived at my current kit.

I think that the Artist & Artist bag is the best I have ever used or seen for a small bag. I like it much better than the Domke bag with a zipper opening at the top and a covering flap. The Domke bag is the same size but, because of the zipper opening, it is difficult to grab the camera and pull it out even with the zipper wide open. Every time I have tried other bags I always came back to the A & A bag. It has been in rain and snow without problems and still looks new.
 
I agree, I have a Domke bag the same size as the A&A. The zipper always gets in the way and there is less convenient room in the Domke. I like the outside pocket on the flap of the A&A bag. After years of use it still looks good. The A&A has an inside lining.
 
I always use my M3/M2 as "naked" but I'm thinking to buy the case after my M3 got big crash mark on bottom piece. My friend-fashion photographer uses Luxecase? for M8. It is really good quality and nice color.

He said that he got it as present from his leica friend but do not know where can buy it. anybody know? also I'm sure there is M3 version?
 
The standard Leica 1/2 case is by far the best bet. It costs less, is well made, is unobtrusive, grips well and does the job. Be sure you buy a new one since some of the early ones tended to mark the camera body. I have the current one and it is great.
 
I bought the basic case off luigi (ebay) and its fantastic, the fit on my m4 is perfect and it makes the camera even nicer to hold. It fits so well its a small challenge to take it off to change film.
 
I have 2 Luigi's and they are great. Thought I would try something different so I got a Luxecase for my G2. Also superb.
 
I did have the Leica half case (they call it the "M8 protector") but I the two little ridges weren't especially comfortable to use, more so after I added my Thumbs Up Mod3. I just recieved my Luigi case today, and am very happy with it - the leather is of extremely high quality, the fit is very good, plus he is happy to do a little bit of custom work. The only quibbles I have are with my rear cover to cover the LCD, it seems Luigi has gone to a two-button design which IMO doesn't look as nice as the four buttons (and as another user mentioned it will only fit on one way - but I think that's part of the charm) and although the leather strap is lovely the eyelet protector things make putting the case on a bit awkward. Overall though I'm very happy with the case and would strongly recommend the Luigi Leicatime case to anyone (more so if they can afford it!).

I like to use the camera 'naked' but I prefer to carry it, and a couple of lens,in a small Billingham shoulder bag called a Stowaway Compact. Does notlook like your obvious camera bag and not as large as a Hadley ( yes and I have two of thoseand a Billingham back pack left over from my SLR days).
Nowadays small is better - camera included.

for those of you that have a Luigi case, exactly how long does it take for your request to get processed? i sent an email earlier in the week requesting a PayPal invoice as stated on his site -- and still no response.

am i being irrationally impatient here?

does he always take so long?

i know i'm being a brat.

i'm really more impatient about the camera than the case and that won't come til wednesday. i get irrational when i have nothing to shoot :bang:

i have a ton of images still to process but can't get into it when i'm not out there shooting as well. guess i thought the smell of fine italiam leather might placate me 😛

eta: just got a large dose of Italian courtesy so now i'm a very happy girl

I have a small Acall Kyoei 35mm lens attached and have found that the M8 with this lens easily fits a leather pouch made for the Konica Hexar AF. Hardly any diffenence in size.

Second pouch is in the mail by now, so the M8 and the Hexar each have their own.
