Luigi's soft release button- user comment

I never remember who is who, there is a dome like one and a soup plate like one: who is the convex and who the concave ?

When I ordered my 2 softies from Luigi I intended to have the soup plate like, but I got, due to the above misunderstanding, the dome-like ones.

Is $12 too much for a softie ? I think so, but it seems to be a luxury/pleasure article for me. Tom's-one-stop-less-advantage is a dramatic news for me.

Now for my news to softie users. Shutter noise and vibration is not only at the shutter itself but either extends to the shutter lever and shutter release. If you manage to insert a circular piece of leather or rubber between the softie and the the shutter button, you will make a noticeable difference with slapping cameras like the Olympus SP, both in terms of noise and vibration.
As for the unlucky folks who don't own noisy/vibration cameras, with this cushioning you will enjoy an even softer feeling when pressing the softie.

Cheers,
Ruben

I have both the Luigi (concave) and TA (convex) soft releases. Both of these seem to be well made. However, I prefer using my MP without the soft release primarily because the shutter seems to drag if I don't squeeze straight down with any of these. The MP shutter release is small enough that one can only press it straight down, so no real effort to center my finger on the shutter release as it is. Maybe I just need to get used to these soft releases.

I find using the joint of the finger to release the shutter a distinct advantage (as when I shoot a rifle with a heavy trigger). However, my finger is not long enough to do so without having to reposition my hold on the camera. YMMV.

I have decided, after seeing how it looks on varjag's Contax-II, to go for a convex (dome-like) luigi softie. I hope it will help me improve the sharpness of my shots at low-speeds and f/1.5. I even wonder how it'll look on the Contax-IIIa 😀 more soon...

one problem with aluminum alloys in general is they tend to not want to stay threaded tightly. Steel tends to tighten down and stay there. I had a hell of a time with losing my mini-softreleases until I put a tiny dab of locktite on them all (which I would not really recommend, excpet for maybe the blue version).

I would say that for certain cameras where the shutter button is recessed, such as Kievs, Leicas, etc., I had a harder time avoiding camera shake than with cameras where the button is raised, like on the Canonets. Adding the minis rectified the issue for me.

One advantage I see with the minis is there is very little side-to-side presure when the shutteris depressed, whereas the other, larger versions make it relatively easy to put sideways pressure on the mechanism if you aren't pressing down in the center of the button.

Nail varnish may have been a better choice!

And what about a RF selection pack of releases in different colours? At a heavily discounted RFF rate obviously ..... 🙂
