I heard about the purple cast, but since I couldn't buy the book right now I haven't seen it up close.
I'm wondering if a mixed color/B&W book would be the same.

Likely, since they are (to the best of my knowledge) printed the same way - that is, even if the printer uses one printer for color and one for B&W, you'll still end up with the bluish/purple cast because the printer for B&W sucks.
There's another self publisher that was discussed but I can't remember the name of them; I think it's "mypublisher.com" or something like that.

I used mypublisher.com and got a horrible green cast on my BW shots. They don't have adequate colour profile management in their software.

I was never happy with Mypublishers color accuracy
and their B&Ws were never consistent

Besides color accuracy, how are each of these companies for sharpness and resolution? I've seen one or two books done by other people on Blurb and the photos were not real sharp -- but that could have been because the users sent them low resolution or highly jpegged photos. Are there any companies you've been happy with in this regard?

mypublisher was pretty good with contrast, sharpness and resolution
Shutterfly is excellent in that category, even the 12 x 12 books with the edge to edge has excellent sharpness and full resolution
Here is a book I made for my mother for mom's day
The color photo was with my D80, the 2nd post the B&W images are with the D50 with some macros of the print quality

Well, I have to go with one of these companies. B&W quality is a concern because I plan to have both B&W and color images in the book. I suppose I can go through Lulu, order the book, and see how things go. If I'm not happy, I can take my business elsewhere.

Thanks, Pete! That's really helpful.

I've noticed going thru my RFF2 book, that there was a few particular pictures that had a lot of very saturated purple in a horizontal area. That may have caused this strange purple banding.
