Lulu is shipping "The Book"

No time for the two weeks celebration !

My books arrived today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What can I say... first impression is breathtaking, the book is indeed bigger than I thought, and that foto from Graksi on the glossy cover is, breathtaking again.

It's also hard to describe to go through the pages and see all that great work from you all, that you already know from the gallery but being printed and together gives them a reality that somehow is lacking when seen here online :D

Congrats and thanks to Gene, Ralph, Todd, Nick and specially to Rich who made it possible in the first time and to you all !

Now to the technical section...

The magenta cast is indeed noticeable, even in color shots, that could bring us to 'onl sepia' for the next one :p Remy I don't want to turn you more impatient but yours look great !

The font size on the left of the photos could indeed be reduced by a couple numbers, or at least, made thinner.

And...

Frank, I love 'down by the dock' ! :D

Dagnabit! I'm gonna call my wife now to find out if the mailman finally brought my copy...!

...Hmmm, no luck. The mailman hasn't come yet. But maybe later, right?

OK - maybe I made you a bit agitated because I said your pictures look awesome in the book. Well, they actually look lousy! Does that make you feel any better? ;)

Damn you, Peter! Now I wanna see them even more! :p

I'm gonna call again....

RML, I have a better idea.

Buy a round trip ticket to Boston. You fly down where and stay at my house, where there the book will be sitting on my coffee table for you to browse. I'll take your return ticket to Amsterday where I will indulge myself for a week. Its been a long time since I've been to Amsterdam. Then, after a week, and only if I feel like it, we can do the reverse to get you home. If I don't feel like, just be sure to feed my dog and give her her medication. :)

What time should I expect you at Boston/Logan ?

I haven't been following this thread lately, sorry, but I would like to discuss the "metamerism" or color shift to the BW images. I too noticed it upon arrival of my book but thought mabe it was just my copy seeing noone else complained of it.
Metamerism occurs in inkjet printing when using all 4-7 colors to print black and white images from an inkjet printer, obviously it also occurs in Lu-Lu's printing process as well. At first I wasn't sure, I looked at the book in flourescent lighting, when I stepped outside to get a better look it seemed to look more neutral. They could resolve this by printing the BW images with a different black only inkset, it probably cannot be avoided as I doubt Lu-Lu will change inks just for our book.
Most people viewing the book won't ever notice, it's those of us die hard BW guys that dread the color cast. A suggestion for the next book might be to "warm" the BW images up a bit with a slight Sepia tone, very slight and almost imperceptable, a little Cyan color added will cool the image, either way the prints will look more like true BW and less like your kids dumped red Koolaid on them :D.
Overall the book looks great and I'm happy to be a part of it, thanks.

Stephen, how about I take the next flight?

I only have to take care of your dog, right? Or are there other family members that need care and attention as well?
Oh, BTW, you can stay in my tiny house but you can't touch my wife. :)

Be sure to leave any Leicas at home! :p

Hey, I don't mind the tiny house since I'm tired of trying to keep 5 bathrooms clean. Funny thing is that my son and I share one bathroom, and the 'girls' use the other 4!!! A studio apartment starts to look really nice under those conditions :)

Ok, I won't 'touch' the wife, but I might look :) ALL my camera equipment will be coming with me. Just take care of the dog, the other family members will take care of themselves. I wonder if they will even notice, or perhaps say to you, "did you cut your hair Stephen"!

I'm on my way to Boston/Logan now. Just let me know what gate to look for the buy with a camera around his neck.

Yahoo - got my book today, too! Looks great (even with the magenta cast)!

I got my copy yesterday! Not bad for a USPS/Canada Post "joint venture"!

The book looks relly great. The Magenta shift in B&W is really strong under fluorescents. Under tungsten, it looks more like a light warm tone. But that's not a big issue. The book looks so good. I will definitely use this service when I'll have a completed project.

Congratulations to all who participated!

My wife took a copy of the book to work, two co-workers are ordering a copy. I told them I'd autograph them - LOL.

Stephen, too bad you're taking all your gear. I can't accept that. Besides, my wife objected to my leaving. :)

And no, I still don't have my book! Not even a note from the mailman!

I showed the book to some people at work and they were amazed at how well it looked, even more when I told them about how Lulu works, for people looking to have some work published it's a great option !

And the more I browse it the more I like it, can't wait to see the second one coming out :) Thanks again everybody for making it possible.

I found that all the "non-photographers" I've shown the book to never notice any color shift problems. They're only looking at the content, the photo as art itself.
It is we nit-picky photographers that are looking for errors in the details. I have nothing but praise for the finished product. And again a HUGE thanks to all involved. ~ ; - )
