Have been lusting after the leica 75 summicron and was wondering about handling the framing in an m-3 (since no framelines). Anyone have any experience or ideas? Thanks.

Joanie

The 75 Summicron will cause the M3's 50mm framelines to be displayed... and you can estimate some coverage limit inside those frames. With reference to the 90mm frames, too, as the 75 would be between those two. Just twiddle the frame preview lever occasionally. Or you could buy the nice Voigtlander 75mm external viewfinder for a lovely bright 1:1 view. ;)

thx, does Leica make an external 75 vf also? the voightlander lines up correctly to be accurate with the m-3( as accurate as it could be...)?

Looks like Cosina is your best bet. Leica made a finder for the 73mm, I do not know about the 75. I suspect it would be very rare and expensive IF it was made.

I would also inquire with some of the Leica repair specialist if 75mm framelines could be added to the M3 finder. It is just a mask with lines in it!

What I have read in the net (cannot remember the link currently) there is no way for the M3 to be upgraded with the 75mm framelines. But it can be done for the M2. I assume the old finder will be replaced by the newer 0.72 model in this case.

Cheers

On the M2 upgrade I believe that they just change out the frame mask. It is already a 0.72x finder. On the M3 a repairman would have to modify the mask for the 0.92x finder. It would be a "hack", but I have seen some good ones done by competent camera repairman.
