I think we all got over these specials a long time ago. They really don't generate the amount of discussion they used to and we've all come to accept that this is a large part of the way the company survives.

This is an excellent point. It will be interesting to see if these limited edition digital bodies retain their value once superseded. Unlike the film bodies, even now, I doubt we will see the same with digital.
The special edition lenses are another matter.
Ultimately usefulness and longevity will drive value, both to the current purchaser and those in the future.
My few thoughts, anyway.

This is what caught my eye. I thought the old M6 Titanium bodies were just titanium coated, as opposed to having their top and bottom plates machined out of titanium. Before this camera, has there ever been a Titanium Leica body that was machined out of solid titanium?
