I've got an MDa and use it with a Visoflex with my 135 Elmarit. It's a super slick camera, albeit a little heavy. There is a chance that I get an M1 shortly (from the photo department at my work). Which one to keep, that is the question?

which one *looks* cooler. That is the only question. ;)

But honestly, I don't know the relative merits of the two well enough to compare them. Keep both?

They are pretty similar cameras...

The M1 was based on the Leica M2 & has a viewfinder with frames for 35 & 50mm only, no rangefinder. The MDa is based on the Leica M4, but has no viewfinder or rangefinder.

I guess if I had to make your decision (not a bad position to be in imho) I would choose the M1 because of the ability to scale focus with a 35mm lens & still have a brightline finder.

And, of course, one can go to the effort of converting an M1 to an RF camera, while that can't be done to an MD. Well, I suppose it, can but it'll take even more expensive parts.
