M2 & 28mm?

I've been thinking bad thoughts about just maybe adding a M2 to my pile. Now this is dependant upon a couple of things - first, finding one cheap enough but also, secondly, wondering how the full VF view compares to the FOV of a 28mm lens? I have a Canon 28/3.5 that I would prefer to be able to use as easiliy with any future M2 as it is with my CL.

I think the VF on M2 is smaller than 28mm FOV. its just a bit larger than the 35mm framelines.

You're already using the 28mm on the CL using the whole viewfinder to frame? If so you'll be fine using the whole viewfinder of an M2 the same way. In fact it will be better as the metering bar on the CL makes it hard to see one side of the frame. Remember that the M2 has the same .72 finder as the M6 etc and they squeeze a 28mm frame in those cameras (even though it is hard to see and a bit undersized).

How about an M4-P?

I shoot mostly with a 28mm and love mine. Have heard the M2 is the pinnacle of Leica-ness but the Canadian M4-P works great for me and isn't too pricey.

I actually happen to have a m2 with 28 framelines and if you have your eye well centered than you can almost use the full viewfinder as 28. Just don't compose to tight.

Just a suggestion to consider adding a CV 28/35 minifinder to the M2 to aid in viewing. It's amazingly small and looks very elegant on top of a classic chrome M2. I just got one yesterday (thanks Roland!) and was surprised by how tiny yet bright it is by comparison to my CV 28mm finder and was equally impressed by how good it looked on my M3.

A friend of mine who wears glasses has put a CV 28mm finder on his M7. I had a look through it a couple of weeks ago and was amazed at how bright and clear it was.
