Hello. I obtained an M2 a month or so ago and visually, it had appeared to work fine, so I ran some rolls though it while on holiday. Unfortunately, I noted a uniform overexposure of a stop or so on the rightmost 5% or so of each shot.
I wonder what this is and if it can be fixed at home.
Thanks
Phil

FWIW/ My hope had been to send this off to Shintaro if I felt it was a keeper. And frankly, aside from this problem, it is a great shooter and I love it. However, if I also may require a CLA I wonder if I should look for someone who does both cla and painting.

Common problem with older cameras. It needs a CLA.

No, it needs a shutter repair. Whether the OP chooses to have a CLA at the same time is another matter.
Personally I'd prefer to send any camera to a good repairer for a simple repair and a checkover than to a cheap 'CLA' merchant. At worst (and this is not just hearsay -- I've seen the cameras, and even been on the receiving end once) a bad 'CLA' is a swill-out with an aggressive solvent, followed by flooding with oil and overtensioning the shutter springs.
Cheers,
R.

Personally, I'd try to tension up the 2nd curtain spring before thinking about spending $$
(you may need to adjust the curtain brake accordingly).

Roger, regardless, buying Leicas and then wanting to patch them up at home to save money just doesn't make any sense. If you can't afford to play, stay out of the game.

That depends on whether you equate Leica to luxury or treat it as a tool (or in between).
Personally, I wouldn't mind building my own BMW R750 from parts (not like I have one).

No argument there. It's just the idea of automatic CLAs I query. As I say, I'd rather have a repair and check-over by a good repairer than a cut-price CLA -- and a lot of them are cut-price. Note also my comment about overtensioning the shutter springs: by implication, without cleaning out the old lubricant properly.
I only work on cameras myself when they're worth little or nothing; when I'm not relying on them for an income; or where it's such an easy fix I'd be a fool not to (on a Leica M, that's pretty much limited to adjusting infinity focus and to tightening the occasional loose screw, e.g. on the shutter speed dial).
Cheers,
R.

I have fixed and adjusted M2's and it's easy to check if you have a similar working camera and an old CRT TV.
I think the KS15 documentation is available somewhere on the web.

This is just ridiculous logic. Sorry.
