I have recently rec'd messages from 2 different people offering a "2nd Chance" purchase on the same lens. One of them was quite official looking on Ebay "letterhead". Here is the text of the 1st "2nd offer":

I indicated my interest in order to see where this person was going with this. It's obviously some attempted fraud. In checking my e-bay messages, I find there are none. I also looked up the original item and find both the buyer and seller have already posted positive feedback for each other. Should EBAY be contacted about this?

The sheer number of these types of scams and epay's inability or lack of desire to do anything about it (most scam auctions actually make it to completion) just shows how much they care about buyers....they really don't give a crap if you get ripped off, even though the scam was perpetrated entirely on their website. As far as I'm concerned they should be liable.
But look how fast they jump on you if they think you may be contacting the seller to buy the item off-epay.....

Wait... I re-read your initial post... And I have to add that when I purchased something on a "Second Chance Offer" the note didn't ask for any information, like yours does. Sorry, I take that back. This is a very evident scam. Sorry about having sounded like advising the opposite of everybody else :bang: It's my fault... I only scanned the text of the message you received and now that I read it, I see it has all the tell-tale signs of a scam.

Of course, if you manage to string the guy along... who knows? Turn the tables and scam the scammer! 🙂
