I just picked up a Leica M2 button rewind 1958. The shutter is shading on the slower speeds, it probably sat around for too long with little or no use. This is something I expect from a camera of this age anyways, not a huge deal. What I am curious about is if this can remedy itself with everyday use? The 1/60 and up speeds work fine, no shading even after a test roll, it's 1/30 and down.

Obviously this camera needs a CLA pretty bad, this is not new information. The reason for this purchase is that I have always wanted an M2(and got a crazy deal on this one); the 35 framelines are what made these far more appealing than an M3. Also I have a trip to New Orleans next month and needed a second body while one of the good 'ole M6's are out for repair.

Regardless when the time comes this will probably be sent to Youxin Ye for the CLA and re-wrap. DAG is just too damn busy and takes too long for such a young(old?) camera in my collection. It's just asking to be taken out into the world to capture more images.

1.Warm the camera up, binge watch your favorite netflick series.
2.Work the shutter about a thousand times.
3.Shoot a roll of film.
4.Ship the camera off, or not.

5.Let us know how it goes.

By coincidence, I just had my ‘58 M2 CLA’d by Youxin and it was about a 48hr turnaround. Just go ahead and send it off so that you don’t have to think about it anymore. I put off getting mine done for about a year knowing, like you, that it needed to be done. Mine probably hadn’t been serviced in 30 years.
