Just to share my experiences really!
After the buyer pulled out of my M2 purchase I decided to sort out the slow speeds myself. Off came the top, rangefinder removed to get at, and remove the escapement and then I just cleaned it off with lighter fluid and relubed. Whilst I was at it I took the core out of the shell, more out of curiosity than anything else. I was surprised how easy it was to do. I didn't change any settings, ie the high speed settings or the 1/8th speed setting on the slow speed mech as I thought they would prob be set ok anyway. It all went back together as easy as it came apart. I made a couple of electronic speed testers, one for the speeds and just for fun, a combination speed and curtain speed tester. Also very easy to do.
I just adjusted the curtain tension springs until the speeds where about right. In reality this is quite simple. Set the opening curtain first so it clears the gate properly and then set the closing curtain according the readings taken. More tension equals faster speed.
I ended up comparing the timing graphs at all speeds with my M4 which was just serviced by Peter at CRR and they now look pretty similar.
I ran a test roll today and the results are great. Exposure times seem spot on.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share my efforts with the other DIYr's here, regards john

Keep it up, maybe we will be sending you our Leicas for CLA pretty soon. Would you care to publish dewtails of the speed tester you made? Sounds like a good project for me.

Thanks a lot for sharing !! I am interested into building a shutter speed tester myself, at the moment just for fun but maybe later to service my cameras.

Well, join the club! I sort of went through the same with my 'parts' M3, as I described some months ago. Indeed it is not really difficult, though I had to improvise a bit to cure some problems. Having the proper tools made things a lot easier.
The M3 is still working fine.

Thanks for the shutter tester links. Maybe I make myself one.
Some weeks ago someone gave me another one, also home-brew, made from various electronical parts and an old Commodore computer, but some wires are broken. When I retrieve the scheme somewhere, it should be an easy soldering fix and I'm set.

Tonight I fixed my second Leicameter MR. My own example (MR-4) started to be erratic; lifting the hood and cleaning the metering contacts did the job. The second one (MR), which I bought dead for a song, revived after cleaning the battery check contacts.
