Hello.

Recently the M2 won't wind anymore. After I had took a shot I went to wind and it wouldn't wind completely. Anyone know the issue or recommend anything? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You have to reset the frame counter yourself, and sometimes it gets moved by accident and you think you have more shots left on the roll than you really do. In that case it'll advance part way and stop. Try rewinding the film and see if the shutter starts working again.

Sound like your curtain has gotten stuck. Look at the camera and try to figure out if the curtain is stuck 1/2 open.
You can try to put it to B and if you have a selftimer, engage that one as that uses a different "release" spring. Also check for filmchips or a broken piece of film jamming the curtains.
It all depends on what shape the camera is too. If it is heavily worn, it could be the sprockets in the advance, or a chip from a broken sprocket that jams it.

viewing the shutter curtain from the front and back it doesnt look like the shutter is partially open, I'm assuming it would be obvious if the shutter was 1/2 way open. Also the camera doesnt have a self timer, so that rules out that other method.

I'm also going to assume the only way to check the sprockets or something is jamming it, is by opening up the camera?

Thanks for the info Tom, If there aren't any other means of evaluating the camera without taking it apart, I think I'll be purchasing some tools.

I had an M with the curtain that got stuck from falling off it's track; you might say off it's rocker. :bang:
I got it fixed from Sherry at the time but forgot what it costs.

Sounds though like you may need a CLA if it never got one. But don't fret on the price, once fixed you'll use it for another decade to come. 😎

The shaft rotates when the button is pressed and doesnt rotate when the button is not pressed. Occasionally the button will pop out after being pressed, when i shake the camera or fiddle with the winder.

The camera was recently purchased with a CLA 8 years ago. i'd prefer not to send the camera out for a CLA if i can resolve this issue myself.

Thanks again for the input.

Any suggestions FrankS?

Can you rotate the film wind sprocket shaft from the back of the camera? What is the effect of engaging the rewind button/lever?

Sorry, nothing beyond fiddling with the shaft and the r/w button.
My guess is that there is a film chip blocking some film wind gears.
I'm sure you could get that fixed for less than $100, if that is the case.
