I just picked up a Multifunction Hand Grip (14495) to use with the M246. I wanted it for the grip, but I also liked the idea of connecting the camera directly to the computer for downloading images. My problem is that the camera will not connect to my primary computer (M1 MacBook Pro, Sonoma). It connects to my older Apple computers without trouble (2011 and 2013). Removing the SD card from the camera and using the M1 computer's card slot works fine, but I would like to avoid handling the cards so much.

When I connect the camera to the M1 machine it reacts by showing the "I'm connecting" screen and flashing red indicator. After a few seconds this activity stops and that's it, no connection. I've tried in both "PTP" and "Mass Storage" modes.

I can see the camera via the Disk Utility but I cannot format or run diagnostics on it. It will not mount. I have formatted the SD card in the camera a couple times but it makes no difference. Behavior is the same with two cards (both 64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro). Camera's firmware is 1.1.0.0.

I've seen "Leica Image Shuttle" software mentioned but Leica no longer provides a download. I'm not sure that would solve the problem, though. Seems like I have a system level problem.

Any ideas on how I might make this work on the M1 machine? Sure would be nice to justify this purchase by having it do one of the most important functions I bought it for.

EDIT - I discovered a partial solution by trying an older SD card. The camera now connects to the M1 computer and I can see the files. There's still a little mystery around why the connection to newer SD cards only works on my older computers.

EDIT 2 - It seems that older SDHC type cards will connect to the M1 Mac while SDXC type cards will not. Why this doesn't matter to the older Macs is a mystery.
