I'm thinking about getting back into RF photography after a few years away. While the Zeiss Ikon and Leica M7 are very attractive, I'm thinking about saving a few bucks and also getting one of the best viewfinders available---with a Leica M3. Just wondering what kind of meters you meterless body shooters are using these days.

the zi blows the doors off an m3 in the finder department.

meter might depend on shooting habits.
i have a small pilot but used it outside during the day.
low light could use a meter with a wider range.

I use a VC II meter, tiny and it looks like it was made for the meterless M's.

I use a Sekonic L-308, almost always in ambient mode. It's great.

It's hard to think of a finder less in need of having its doors blown off than the one installed in the M3. I guess that would be the ZI finder.

Mostly meterless. 400 film over years, even I learned. Once you have learned what is right for 400 you can just extrapolate to 100, 200, 800, 1600. It is fun to check yourself at times with a meter. You will find there is not that much to it.

I do have a Sekonic 308 that I can highly recommend.

As it happens, I just received my M3. It is indeed as nice as everyone says.

Meterless would be the goal, as I find the add-on meters ugly.

For the moment I have a Gossen Digisix. A tiny thing which fits nicely in my pocket. I wanted the smallest, simplest meter. There was also a sekonic (don't know the model nummer) but it felt like something you would find in a cornflakes packet. - The Gossen is made in the land of the BMW and M3 🙂

Just checked: The sekonic I saw was the L-208. The L-308S looks much better (but also bigger, more complicated and more expensive 🙂 )
