M3 best ever gadget

Mine is going in the ground with me, sorry.

But, I did look at prices at KEH last night, I was surprised at how many sub $600 bodies they had.

Ughh! More reasons to have GAS.

Thanks for posting this.
Cheers,
Alex

I'm amazed any of the judges were old enough to even remember the M3. Speaking of which, who were the judges?

I think they were the readers of Stuff magazine. Maybe they thought they were voting for the partly clad model holding the M3 :)

Not that I disagree with their #1 pick, but I am having a hard time believeing that 20-somethings have ever used a film camera, never mind one that is 50 years old and far above what almost any of them would be willing or able to spend. Methinks me smells a rat here.

In this day and age companies pay for position

In this day and age companies pay for position

This does not compute. I would love to see an explanation of this strange phenomenon. The other thing is, I have been a serious amateur photographer for years, but exclusivley SLR, P&S, and digital until about 6 months ago. Of course I had heard of Leica, but I could not have named a single Leica model without a bunch of digging. How can these 20-year olds be that much better informed? Seems unlikely.

Now one must wonder - did Leica pay for position???:confused::confused:

I love this:

“They kept climbing further and further into this ivory tower, with other people just as passionate about Leica telling them they were doing great,” he explained.

“The ivory tower is the right place to be because that is the Leica heritage, but we need to reach into the iPod generation who don’t know how great the cameras are and who would be just as passionate about a Leica as they are about an iPod.”

Probably talking about the M8 in the last sentence :D

Where did the quote come from?

"Passionate about an iPod". Surely only until the next model is released and, given how long the M8 took, how could Leica ever keep up with a public that fickle.

A lot of 20 somethings started photography with film in highshool. I myself am in my early 20s and have owned Leica M mount cameras and currently use two cameras from the 1930s-1940s. Plus the gadget experts for Stuff and Ebay may very well be in their middle ages.
