When I had my M3 I found a corrective diopter used for I think $25. It was one of the newer kind with rubber cladding, not the old type which was metal and serrated around the edge. I knocked out the lens from it and it made a very good protector. Unlike the others, it screwed into the eyepiece and didn't get knocked off going in and out of the bag.
Aki-Asahi. I ordered 4 for $3.50 including shipping from him about 9 months ago, and received them in about a week. I've only used one so far, so this is quite a bargain. Here's the link.
I have a circa 1957 M3. A standard rubber hose washer fits over my eyepiece and is thick enough to protect my glasses from the metal rim. Slight trimming of the washer is required.
