M3, I think I get it

I like my M4 a lot. I had an M3 advance lever installed on my M6 after using the M3 and liking it, but I don't know, I don't miss it on the M4. I do prefer the knob rewind of the M3/M2, as sometimes I'm rewinding and the crank slips off my fingers, and I have to rewind it all again.

One thing I thought when going for the M4 vs an M2 is that the loading was a bit easier and there is no spool to be lost (so I'd be always carrying a spare or two to be on the safe side).

I LOVE my M3, but it does kind of put you in a trap where focal length is concerned. I think that most RF shooters like to shoot wide. I kind of miss that with the M3. Since you asked, I'd say go for the M2 to get the magic trio of 35-50-90. You can do it with an M3, but you'll have to use an accessory VF in the shoe or use one of the 35s with goggles designed for the M3 (I think the last choice is too restrictive).

yeah but '67 wasn't a good year, I had a 1963 1200 and it was great, sad that you don't see many on the roads anymore, all rusted away I guess.

My local repair guy was trained at Leica and his favorite is the M3 and the one he keeps telling me i need to try. Like I need any help with G.A.S 😀

Actually the 67 bugs was their best year, IMHO. Why? 1. First year using 12 volt batteries, something we now all take for granted. 2. It was the last year before all the emission controls were put in. 3. Also the last year before extensive use of plastic on the interior and those damn ugly headrests. I had a VW repair shop from 70 till 81 and I only worked on 1967 VW's of all kinds; Bugs, 411, Karhman Ghia's, Bus, pickup including the very rare double cab (hippies put bunk beds in the rear cab) and of course those beautiful campers with French rolled Walnut interior siding (top speed 45 MPH). 😀
