Merge the two images inside the patch always starting with the lens on infinity, or at least from the right.
Alturnatively put the patch on a vertical line and make the patch line line up with the one just outside.

Ronald: Please excuse my ignorance but that's the 1st time I've heard one should always focus from the right.....what's the reason for this?

When my father went to the Leica School of Photography years ago, they said you focus an SLR by rocking it to find the right spot. Rangefinders you focus till you hit it, no rocking. I have his notes somewhere, but do not remember him saying start to the right.

You keep the lens at infinity or "to the right" so that if you have to quickly bring up your camera to focus for a shot, you always "KNOW" where you're focused so you always move in the same direction to focus.
This is when you don't have time to estimate the distance before bringing up the camera. You wouldn't want to screw up a shot now, would you?

Makes sense....I was always doing this unconsciously anyways, probably trained by the infinity lock on the Summarit I grew up with. But I usually go slightly past the prime focus point and come back.....

They aren't ready to be critiqued: the files are too big, and the scans are very bad: there's a lot of pixellisation. Post images around 640px on the long side, after you've post-processed them, and someone might be able to comment.

My understanding is that one doesn't rock a range finder into focus because then the slop of the mechanism is exposed. This is the same as focusing a large view camera with a rack and pinion focus. As long as you only focus from one direction and give the mechanism enough travel you're good. The logic in focusing from infinity is to take the longer way home. Another simile is tuning a guitar, one always tunes up not down. I always have to focus from where the lens was at the last shot so I always give it a twist and go in from there. Another simile: is dropping a bead on the target and shooting a gun.
Cock, take a breath and hold it while giving the lens a twist, focus in and shoot.
