M3 Shooting w/o Meter

I always use 400 ISO B/W film and it doesnt take long to learn to judge the exposure just using the pocket meter every now and then.Its surprising how forgiving film is. (snip)

What a great topic - it involves my favorite Leica and shooting meterless!

I am with Steve; I also shoot meterless and find little difference in results using my M3 using an educated guess versus the MP with meter. Even I learned quickly, I also use primarily 400 B&W. I know those numbers, so if I occasionally use 100/200/800/1600 I can do the 400 multiples pretty quickly - I just get thrown off with crooked ASAs. So little difference, that I have not bothered putting a battery in the M6 for a few months - can't do that with a M7/8!

Welcome to the jungle...😀 😱

My first M camera was the M3 which I bought with money from a part time after school job back in 68. For years I used that camera without metering my subjects and feel those images are some of the best I've done. I still have and use that camera. I have since added another M3 body and a M6.
