M3 Summaron conversion question

What some people don't realize is that all the Leica lenses with Goggles will work on all "M" Leicas WITH THE GOGGLES. (...well except on the CL and possibly M5)
Just because you have an M2, or such, doesn't mean you need to source a lens made for use without goggles, as, for example, the 35mm Summaron with goggles will work and function just fine. It brings up the 50mm frame, and then the goggles turns this view into 35mm field of view.

This bit of "insider" information could mean that you can find a bargain out there somewhere.

That's true...while goggled 35mm 'crons go for about $800 or so, a good condition Version I without goggles will often go for twice that or more. There is some light loss in the VF when you use the goggles, but they can be cleaned and it's not that bad at all....some people hate the retro look of goggles, others love it.

I seem to remember Sherry once told me the goggles could not be cleaned if they become hazy inside, as they are not really made to be disassembled. And from personal experience the goggles will work on an M2, M4 and M6... about the same mag (and frameline size) as a .58 mag finder.
