I agree with you on doing no or in my case as little post as necessary to achieve the look I want.
The fact is that I like using my DSLR and can achieve pretty much the look of my M cameras with it when I want them to look like that.
Does it matter what it's taken with if we enjoy the output?

No, and Yes, to each individual. I get my final results the way I want them. I use my digital cameras for other results. As I have said so many times, cameras are simply tools.

But this thread simply shows that I get the results I want with two different tools with the least amount of effort. Those who enjoy the effort, well, if they have to explain then no one would understand them... Was that a Harley Davidson line?

The real question: what did you have at the Greasy V? Haven't been there in decades....

As I recall...I had a naked dog and a Coke. Paul B. had coffee and two chili dogs and an order of fries, maybe a Coke too. David D. had a Coke and I forgot what John had but this is the evidence before we did the show and tell with our cameras:

And just to show that the D40 has tremendous creative abilities, this is one of my Construction series with no PP other than a single adjustment. Just an example of how one can produce excellent images (IMO, you may not think so), with the least amount of effort:

Now, if we want to get really funky (and I doubt that Photoshop can do this but never tried it), take the lens characteristics of certain lenses and you get this...no post-processing again:

Actually, Photoshop can do this with different lens characteristics. I was just doing this last week. You can also download a program to create the characteristics of a lens not in their list. They don't have any Hasselblad lenses so I was going to create one. I'll find what it was and get back to you.

Ok, found it. I'm using Photoshop CS5. Load a photo and go to:
Filter > Lens correction > Auto Correction tab > Search Criteria - pick out which camera brand and so on....

If your camera/lens is not in there, the Adobe site has the program you can download to create your own lens characteristics and save them.

They also have the Lens Profile Downloader that lets you search the database and download any lens profiles that others have created. I'm looking through the list now. They have Leica listed but no profiles in there.

I'm planning on creating some profiles for my Hasselblad lenses, especially my Super Wide C with a 38mm lens (on medium format).
