M4 And the Girl from Ipanema

Like JSU, I also fold a couple of millimeters of film, but I fold to the shiny side, not the emulsion side. I do this because the take-up spool rotates counter-clockwise when looked at from the bottom of the camera, and folding this way creates a nice hook that secures the end of film inside the takeup spool. Folded this way the hook is also bent away from the shutter curtain, but I also have no difficulty in stopping during rewinding as soon as the film end has left the takeup spool.

Has anyone noticed that in the picture, the hole in the baseplate and the hook on the camera are laid out at opposite ends?

Does that tell us anything re the problem?

Gadge

PS - Got film in so can't open mine up right now to compare.

<The photo is backwards, he is not putting it on the camera backwards, it would not fit! >

Agreed!

I was actually wondering of the parts attached were assembled incorrectly but it looks the same as this one:

I note in the original post the OP was using his Leica attached to a tripod. This is fairly unusual and is it possible that this has had an effect on the part below the tripod bush (the large basket to push down the film leader by what I can see). I was just searching on M4 tripod problems but no luck so far)

<I open and close my tripod several times, and move on swiftly,>

Maybe the bush has got bent whilst doing so?
