I have a M4 that needs recovering. I checked out CameraLeather.com and discovered that they make a kit that omits the space for the film reminder dial on the back door for a MD-2, and this offers a more minimal look that I favor.

I am wondering if a similar look can be achieved on a M4 where the covering on the back door is solid.

Thanks in advance.

Cal,
You can do it easily with the Cameraleather door panel but the only issue is the slight depression in the metal. Filling that in is an issue to get it perfectly clean though it's not hard to shim up some adhesive backed metal foil or hard plastic, cut to fit to make the surface perfectly flush.

I think Youxin has done this mod for a few folks, you might try asking him.

John,

You are correct, but the original vulcanite already has a patch missing and another spot started crumbling just by touching it. Because I have a boring day job I have to daydream and get a head of myself. I still have some of that Italian goat leather, and I'm thinking of making my own covering using that thin soft leather.

Not having a film reminder makes the job simplier, but I also favor the minimal look. Also know that I'm a slacker who likes to think as myself as being clever. LOL.

Phil,

I know you know M4's inside and out. A benefit of not having the film reminder is that it often catches my mustache or arrogant chin beard.
