I was just wondering does anyone have any experiences using m42 to m-mount adapter and m42 lenses on the R-D1?

The rangefinder coupling is off, but do you think it is worthwhile? Which wide angle lenses (easier to scale focus) are recommended in m42 mount? I would be more interested in the cheaper lenses but would like to hear also about the good ones with some special character.

Thank you for your advice. Every time.

I have one of these adapters, which I accidentally got free with a Russian camera, but I don't have any old wides. You might look for the 20mm Zeiss Jena Flektogon, though, I have read that it's a good one.

It seems pointless using SLR retrofocus wide angle lenses on a rangefinder. One of the big advantages of rangefinders is that you don't need to do this.

You'd be better off with the tiny voigtlander wides (15, 21, 25). They're around the same price as decent m42 wides.

i am trying to do the exact same thing (although i must wait another 2 weeks to get my r-d1). I bought the adapter though, the only one in the market with a reasonable price is the russian one which cost me $70 for 2.

I was a little surprised by the extra distance it would increase between the lens and camera body. i took a picture and you can see how deep the adapter is. The seller guaranteed infinity focus, but i am a little worried that would the focal distance be changed though?

The CZJ Flektogons in 20mm and 25mm focal lengths are excellent. There's a 20 on eBay at $66 and an absolutely gorgeous 25 in Hungary that is around $140 or so and nowhere near finished. Best idea is to get a decent spottie to put them on.
