I just bought a Leica M3, which will be here next week, but I don't have a lens for it, and can't afford to buy one of the Voigtlander ones quite yet.

I do have an 8mm fisheye in M42 mount and an adapter to EOS, and I'm looking for an adapter to use it with the Leica if possible. I see this place has them for $150:
http://www.cameraquest.com/adaptnew.htm

I don't really need something that nice, as long as it holds it in the right place it's fine. I saw some on Ebay last night but they were oversees and I don't want to wait that long... Anyone have one they want to sell, or have a place I could get one in the US that costs less than that?

Thanks

I bought the adapter from CameraQuest. To be honest, I can't get the hang of my 8mm Peleng (or was it 16mm) fish eye, at least not on my rf cameras. IMO it's not useful to use one on an rf. An slr would be much more practical.

An 8mm fisheye on the R-D1 acts like a 12mm fisheye. Quite a bit different from a 35 or 50. 🙂
The Peleng 8mm costs anything between $150 and 200 euro, which is not a bad price for a fun lens. I can't get a handle on it but that's probably just me. 🙂

SRB in the UK (www.srbfilm.co.uk) does an M42 to Leica 39 mm thread adapter for £19.75 but that would of course need a bayonet adapter as well to fit on the M3. I bought one a while ago and it's very nicely made. It has a ledge that pushes in the lens diaphragm pin so you can use any M42 lens on it, regardless of whether it has auto/manual selection. I bought it to use the 30/3.5 Lydith on a Leica but haven't got around to trying it yet...

Hey, I too use that Lydith lens! 🙂 Great lens, great character. I don't use it very often but I've got some really nice results from it on the R-D1.

Thanks for the posts. I'll check that place out. I guess the fisheye wouldn't be too practical on a rangefinder, but it has a 180' field of view so composing is not really the same as a regular lens anyway. I just kind of wanted something to put on there so I can actually go shoot with film in the camera, even if I couldn't use the viewfinder 😛

Although I might have a buyer or trade for the telephoto, and that'll let me get the C/V 75mm that I want anyway.

I might look for an old Vivitar or Pentax in M42 mount and sell the 1N, considering I won't have any EF lenses.

if you can find

if you can find

the vivitar 35mm 1.9 in m42, i'd highly recommend it. I wish there were an M equivalent of it. I use it for indoors and portraits on my dslr (becomes 52mm equiv 35mm focal length).

watch out for infinity focus issues with m42 to m39 adapters and lenses.
