M5 and 50 summicron DR?

The eyes have a stud that prevents it from being mounted on the body. If you want to mount the eyes, you have to remove the stud.

As for the lens, I think it is compatible to the M5. Even at close focus, the lens is racked out of the camera, so I wouldn't think it interferes with anything.

Thanks Vick. I'm thinking of picking up a DR with eyes and hoped to use it on all my film Ms, M3/5/ and 7. Does removing the stud cause problems with the eyes mounting to other bodies? best...Peter

I think the stud was to prevent the lens from being removed while the eyes were still on the body.

Removing the stud wouldn't affect using the eyes on the other bodies. Note that the DR might interfere with some M6 and M7's.

I'm also thinking that the stud isn't particularly easy to remove, either. I never tried to remove it, and don't know if it is pressed in, or screwed in. If it is pressed in, you may need to cut it off.

But, the DR is a fine lens.

The stud is screwed in and I found it easy to remove. I use the lens on an M6 TTL and the eyes will not mount at all on this model, nor the M7 while it's in place. With luck it will remain in the top drawer of my dresser until such a time as I may need it again!

The lens should only be mounted and unmounted from the body with the focus set to infinity. Enjoy if you get one. It's a true classic.

Sounds like it can be fully utilized (with eyes) on my M3 now, after stud removal on my M5, but only as a normal focusing, but terrific 50 on my M7, (and forget about the M9). I had a rigid cron and know how wonderful the optics are, especially for smooth B&W. I want that look back in the bag, but mostly I am eager to work with a very close focusing
50 on an M camera, something I have missed since switching from DSLR to M shooting. best....Peter

DR works fine with my M6 classic. I am so glad it dos, because this lens is really nice to use. handles really well and draws beautifully.

I use my DR on Leica M5, without any problem.
