so you may think without spotmetering it es difficult to photograph at night,
the M6 tells you a different story.

Sorry, I've forgotten some informations

M6, Hexacon 35/2
HP5 400ASA in Adox A49 1+2

Martin,

Nice work.

Tell me something. Is the Konica Hexaon 35mm f:2.0 your fastest lens? Which lens did you use for this picture? What speed film are you using? Tripod?

thanks,
I've edited the first posting.

It was shot with the hexacon 35 mm
with out tripod on ILFORD HP5 at 400 ASA
I think at f2 or f4 and 1/30 sec

I think the Leica meter told one f stop more to open,
but I decided to close the lense one f stop to set it more dark.
it was some days ago and I shot a lot of photos.
Beg me pardon.
Next time I'll write it in my moleskin.

That's lovely - were you hand holding?

I took these photos using a printout of the "Ultimate Exposure Computer", HP5+ @ 1600, f/2 and a some head scratching. (NOT Leica)

I've always been a little 'scared' of taking photos at night (where do you read exposure from &c.) - but taking those four rolls of film really helped.

BTW, I see that a number of people here have been to Prague recently - I can whole heartedly recommend it as well - magnificently beautiful, loads of places to drink and eat and (for me) completely safe to walk around at night, drunk taking photos.

For the last shot, did you go in close and meter off the lighted section and then move back or centre-weighted meter off the whole scene?

Either way, that's a bloody nice photo.

the second one was easy to meter,
first take a glas of beer, ore two....
Here you can belive in the leica metering,
tones in the center are importand and will be well done in midgrey.
At the first one it is more difficult,
the center would be to bright so you should step it down,
or if you have, take a spotmetering at a bright side near a lamp on the wall.

You must know how your photo should look like in the print,
I think than it's easy.
A grirlfriend travelling with me uses a Nikon F4 with spotmeter and takes it a such moments.
At the first phote center metering or matrix metering will not work in any case.

thanks
and best regards

is this sarcasm?

A deadly chasm of SARS, yes.

So do you rangefinder photographers roam the streets at night with M cameras and spot meters? Looks like one of you has discovered how to take a night shot without one. Congrats!

Martin,

Wonderful shots...just great. Thank you for sharing them.

Whew, for a minute there I thought I was on the pnet board. I guess there's one in every crowd.

Nice night shots. Metering at night can be tricky - spot meter or not. I look forward to seeing more.
