The M6 is a certain camera model in the Leica M series. The M6 TTL is another camera in the M series. The M6 TTL is not the M6; it is not even the same size or shape as the M6, and it has different features. It takes two keystrokes to type "M6." It takes six keystrokes to type "M6 TTL." It takes a whopping ten keystrokes to type "M6 classic." It is perverse to complicate the simple, unambiguous, correct designation, "M6." In what way is the M6 more classic than the M6 TTL? Why, pray tell, can't we just use "M6" to refer to the M6 and "M6 TTL" to refer to the M6 TTL?

I believe, from what I understand about the particular camera(s) of which you speak :) It's one word: electronics

That is the big difference between the M6 TTL and M6 Classic (at least that's what I've been told recently - feel free to lambaste me if I'm wrong) :D

Cheers
Dave

You are correct, Dave. However, what I'm asking is this: Why do we need to use the term "M6 classic" to refer to a camera which already has a nice, simple name?

"From 1984 to 1998, everyone called it the M6. Most people still call it the M6. After introduction of the M6 TTL, many began to call the original M6 the "M6 Classic," though I have found no official use of this term by Leica."

Taken from the M Guide on CameraQuest's website http://www.cameraquest.com/mguide.htm#M6

It could be that people dont want to mix the two cameras up. It sounds nice with Classic on the end. Its like a vintage car of sorts..

Remember when Coke became Coke (doesn't taste right) and later real Coke was Coke classic adn Coke was Coke new recipe? And then there was decaf and light and cherry and vanilla ....

Can I have a Dr. Pepper, please :)

LOL!!!!!!

When the M4-2 and M4-P came out, why didn't they invent another name for the plain old unhyphenated M4? Older Nikon lenses which don't have the AI feature are now designated non-AI, which seems okay, since it is accurate and meaningful. However, I have seen the M6 referred to as the M6 non-TTL, but that's crazy, since the M6 is not non-TTL.

It's not as bad as Nikon F's and F2's.

Nikon F; Nikon F Photomic; Nikon F Photomic T; Nikon F Photomic Tn; Nikon FTn Photomic; Nikon F Apollo; Nikon FTn Apollo; Nikon F2; Nikon F2 Photomic; Nikon F2S; Nikon F2Sb; Nikon F2A; Nikon F2AS; Nikon F3 (do not have one); Nikon F3HP; Nikon F3AF...

Think of Poor Me!

Black, Chrome, .58, .72, .85, Panda Version, Hermes Special, Anniversary Special, My Son Graduated from Kindergarten Limited Edition, Woohoo we got Financing so we can Continue to Loose Money Celebration Model......

Alright, Richard... You're right. Between a moniker like "classic" and the camera's real name, we should pick the latter. Now... let's hope the rest of the world gets it too! :)

However, I kinda like calling the M6 a "plain vanilla M6", as opposed to the "double-dipped-in-chocky" M6 (that is the TTL). ;)

Why is the original M3 an M3-DS when the M3-SS came out after it? They could call the original M3 an M3 or M3 Classic - But nooo - they have to make it an M3 DS. What happen s to the M3 DS converted to an M3SS. Lets not even start to talk about the M2 and M2R (M2 classic or M2 nonR). Or, the presecessor to the Nikon F2 - should it be an F1 or the Contax that was a G1 - anyone who bought it knew it would become obolete because there had to be a G2.

Then, there were th Licoln Continentals
1940 - Mark 1
1956 - Mark 2
1958 - Mark 3
1959 - Mark 4
1960 - Mark 5
1967 - Mark 3
1972 - Mark 4
1976 - Mark 5, etc etc

But my main question in life, that no one has ever been able to provide a cogent answer to is, why was Kono on Hawaii 50 played by an actor named ZulU? Why not just call him Zulu in the show? HuH?

but everyone calls it the M6 classic, might as well just let it be.

Alternatively we can call the M6 "That one M6 before the M6 TTL came out."

Ah, but "Coke Classic" is really not the same as the original "Coke" as the historic Coca Cola was sweetened with real sugar, and now "Coke Classic" is sweetened with whatever is cheaper at the moment, either "High Fructose Corn Syrup", or "Sugar".

Just bought a jar of Bread & Butter Pickle slices, says on the jar "sweetened with real Sugar", also says "Product of India". Guess it is too expensive to sweeten with "real sugar" here in the USA.

But "M6 classic" is a silly name for a camera whose correct name is simply "M6." Why isn't the M4 called the "M4 classic?" The term "M6 classic" doesn't even have any redeeming social value. :D

Let's update that then.. "M6 Old Skool" and "M6 New Hotness".

There, now we're hip and with it. :D
