M6 shuttle problem, anyone?

Hi all,

please bear with me here for the background info......

yesterday i was shooting with the M6 with its 2 lenses (50mm and 75mm), i started off shooting with the 50mm then in the middle of the row i switched to the 75mm, now here is where the strange thing comes in.....i wasn't able to shoot anything with the 75mm lens, everything seemed fine except for the shuttle, it just didn't work! so i took the batteries out and put them back it to try, still not working. at this point i gave up and switched back to the 50mm and the camera worked perfectly.
after i finished the first row of film, i put in another row and this time i tried the 75mm lens and it worked again! i deliberately switched between the 50 and 75 and don't seem to see a problem anymore (fingers-crossed....)
Anyone here faced a similar problem before??

Alice, I wish I could help you but my little expertise in in Leicas (of which there is a M6 and an M7).

One suggestion: your terms sound strange. You mean to say "shutter", right? And "roll of film" I believe, not row...

We have a good number of knowledgeable members when it comes to Mamiya cameras. Only... the focal lengths sound unusual. Is there a 50mm lens for Mamiya RF or is it rather 55mm?

Oooops! sorry for not checking for any typo before i posted!
what i mean is when i press the shutter button, nothing happens.
and in fact i mean when i change to a new roll of film, the camera with the 75mm lens function properly.
the 50mm lens is for the M6, unless i confused myself with my other makina W67......

OK, the 50mm is for the M6 and the 55mm is for the makina W67. Anyway, this is off topic here and has got nothing to do with my original question.......

If it was a one off are you sure that the blind interlock on the bottom of the Mamiya 6 camera had released properly after changing the lens? Was the red indicator LED in the top right of the finder when you put first pressure on the shutter release? May be a case of the blind not being open.

yeah the blind had been released, everything was normal and should be ready to fire.
anyway, i hope this problem won't happen again.....

So... it's fixed?

Must admit to having held a Mamiya 6 or 7 in my hands once or twice (it was a champaign color)... Impressive beast that it is, it left me overwhelmed. Later I read about it and started lusting for those cameras... but their glass is even more expensive than Leica, so it was easy to turn my attention to other things.

Hi Alice,

I think Jim's comment regarding the release 'switch' on the camera plate being in the correct position is the usual suspect for the shutter not moving. If you have an issue with the film advance lever it could be the advance mechanism itself. There is some history of film advance issues with the Mamiya 6.

Check out the thread at this site under Mamiya 6 and 7 cameras. It will give information regarding members issues and some shops that deal with the problem. Hopefully it is nothing more than the 'shutter release lock' on the bottom of the camera plate not being disengaged

I had a similar poblem once with my 6. The socket that the remote shutter release screws into had come loose (or had been over-tightened, I'm unsure which) and it was affecting the shutter release button. You may want to check that yours is not moving.

i only had this problem once and maybe its because of this......
