I was just at a local shop and they have both and m6 and m4 with summicrons..

the m6 he wants 3000 for the pair
and the m4 he wants 2500

now, I am just curious to which is the better deal.. or if they are both over priced...

(I have also currently seen m6 bodies sell for 1100 on ebay...)

Thoughts?

USD = overpriced
EUR = waaay overpriced

Summicrons come in 35, 50 and 90, all of which have frame lines in both the M4 and M6.

There really isn't much of a difference, just the meter in the M6.

Condition and version of the lens makes a big difference. A decent condition M6 is in the $1200 range, and a Summicron 50/2 runs under $1000. One sold in our RFF ads recently for $350.

A TTL M6 and a 35mm V4 Summicron could be easily be $3000 and not be overpriced for todays market. Same with a really nice M4. Especially in a store.

The RFF classified has a $1200 M6 Wetzlar right now. That and a 50/2 Summicron like the one that sold this week would put you under $1700 or so.

Was a M6 classic, and 50 summicron. not sure version.. and I should have mentioned its in CAD (canadian dollers)

I also feel its overpriced.. but I was just checking.

To be fair, there wont be too many $350 crons popping up. That one had a chip, but not a big deal imo. Which version would change the price a lot.
I bet its not underpriced, as a dealer would/should know what they have. Its likely quite a bit overpriced. Id pick up from the classifieds here if you want the m6, and then hunt for the lens alone

I made that Summicron- the edge chip was out of the optical path. Flaws like that bring prices down. I have seen the Rigid Summicron 50's go in the $600 range for some that were very nice. I sold a late-run collapsible in very good condition for under $500 last week, with adapter and filter.

This is what I was planning to do. However buying an M with a lens seems better than buying a body. Although it is possibly cheaper and easier for me to do.. being a just graduated college student and all.

I have been seeing m6's for 1100 - 1200 at buy it now prices so I'm kinda just waiting for that.

I also check the classifieds here from time to time to see what pops up.

Also, I'm not sure if I should go for m6, m4-p or m8. Usually m6s like i said are like 1200-1600.. found an m4p for 900.. and m8s are around 2300 ish... I love shooting film.. but digital may be cheaper? So I don't know. But then again.. they don't depreciate so I can always decide later, right?

Prices on Leica bodies has been holding steady for a few years, film bodies are up from 4~5 years ago. The M8 prices have been steady for the last 18months, but will most likely come down faster than film cameras.

I was thinking to get an m6 and lens then pick up an m8 later on.. when i truly find out how expensive film is.. haha

The M6 pair, depending on condition should run around $2k give or take. $3000 is overpriced unless LNIB. If yer comfortable disclosing it, which shop in which city ?

Downtown camera... They're not a leica dealer but he has *some* used equip.. they are however a voitlander dealer.

Consider camera shops want a 30% profit on items that most private sellers who are not looking for profit, just trade for money. The price you pay here on RFF, with most of us merely enthousiasts, will be lower on average than in a shop.
