I am curious to know what the body covering of the M6 titanium looks like. I have only seen a few not very good photos of it and heard it described as having some sort of ostrich skin texture (I have never actually seen an nude ostrich so I don't really know what that texture would be like).

From the photos I have seen the titanium metal parts look very nice indeed, especially paired with the titanium lens that comes with the kit. But does the black body covering part really look like it came from leather cut out of one of my mother's purses or is it something appropriate for a user camera?

I saw one not too long ago, it looks pretty much like the standard M6 covering except a little less shiny, and it has like circular scars all over it, they sort of remind me of cigarette burns. The thing I really didn't care for about the Ti M6 is that the shutter speeds for some puzzling reason are not filled in with black paint to contrast so they were really hard for me to read except in bright light.

Great photo, Thanks!

It kinda looks like the normal covering might look if I took a large swig out of a NyQuil bottle first.

Not ugly...not wow, just kinda pyschadelic....in an understated German sort of way I suppose.

AFAIK the covering on the M6 titanium is real leather whereas a normal M6 has a PVC covering that's supposed to look like calf skin leather. There's no substitute for the real thing IMO. I ordered a black lizard leather kit for my M6 @ cameraleather.com that feels and smells much nicer than the standard PVC covering.

I do not particulary like the pattern of the M6 titanium covering though.

BTW the titanium on the M6 titanium is a layer a few microns thick (or thin, depends on your view).

That's easily sorted if you happen to have one and would like black lettering (I would). Remove the paint with a tooth pick and fill-in with a black Lacquer Stik. I have a set with some colours and used the white and yellow to fill-in the engraved lettering on a 1970's Summicron 50mm. The yellow doesn't quite match the yellow Leica uses though, the white does match... 😀

Yep, got two sets for my Nikon FA (end up doing only one as one is attached to MD). They are not too dear ... the only problem is grain matching (evident of using different part of the skin). The front and back do not have matching grain. On the upside, at least the left and right is matching 🙂
