Most were made with the .72 finder, then apparently there was a big outcry for some .58 bodies and Leica converted some existing .72s to .58s. In fact, the boxes for the .58 just had stickers placed on top of the original .72 information. Did you get yours with the box?
Yes, I did get the box and there is a sticker over the old 0.85 . My under-
standing is that only 50-60 were retrofitted to the 0.58. The warranty card
also looks like it was overprinted to cancel out the 0.85 mark. I am lucky
enough to own a 50 1.4 lux pre - asph black paint lens which is a perfect match.
Should I consinder this to be a user or should I keep it in the box?
Nice camera! If you bought this camera it must have had a certain appeal for you. Its a very classic looking camera in the hand and a special finder magnification - great camera to use. My take... Don't worry about the 'collector factor', have fun with it. If you feel you can not use it and appreciate it for what it is, or you want to "keep it in the box" but are not a collector, than sell it and get something similar but a of less 'value' ( monetary or esthetically ).
I never liked the idea of collector cameras, just use the bastard untill the day you die and you will be happier for it. If you are really finiky about using it then throw it in the box, put it in a dry box in your closet for 10-20 years then sell it and get a M8
I agree, I'll be dead by then, and maybe my my heirs will find some value
in something I have used. My goal is to take this kit on the next trip I make to the mission hospital in Africa, then I'll post some pictures.I can't put it to any better use than that.
