All;

I have an M6 with a 35mm F2 ASPH Summicron. I probably don't need wider at this time, so what should be my next lens?

Here are my thoughts:

1.) 50mm F2 Summicron

2.) 50mm Summarit

3.) Zeiss ZM 50mm F2 Planar

4.) 75mm Summarit

or other??

Thanks, Brad

Zeiss ZM 50mm F2 Planar

although I don´t have a M mount camera yet but when I get one the Zeiss ZM 50mm F2 Planar is the lens I´m gonna get first. Seen some really good quality photos from that lens.

If money is not a problem I suggest you
a 75mm and then a 21mm asph.
I've just bought a titan m6 with 21 asph and 75 summilux.....now i'm saving money for the tird and last lens (a 35 summi or a 50 summil🙁).

just think about what you want to do with it,-then take your pick!......they are all good!

A 75mm lens makes a great companion for a 35. You'll just have to decide which 75mm to get (Summarit, Summicron APO ASPH, or Summilux). Good luck, that's a fun choice to be making.

There has been a lot of discussion of the Zeiss Sonnar 1.5/50mm. Another lens to consider is the 90mm tele-elmarit. It is softer than both the 35mm & 50mm Summicron. Very good for portraits.

You got to have a 50 and the Planar is a stellar value for money, to top this you would have to go for the Summilux. Get this and take pictures until you really feel the need for either something even longer 75 or even 90. Depending on what you shoot maybe a 2.8/25Biogon could be next on your list. The 35 at the wide end can quickly get to narrow. Enjoy using your M6 !

M6 with 35mm Summi...What is the next lens?

I've been thinking about a 50 as my next lens. The planar is supposed to be a great lens, and at a better price point than some of the others.

However, there is a $300.00 rebate on Leica Lenses now, so I can get the Leica 50mmF/2.5 Summarit for approx. $900.00 after rebate. I can also pick up a mint 50mm F2 Summicron for about $800.00 as well.

So we have the Zeiss 50, Summarit 50, and the Summicron 50 to choose from.

Brad

From my personal experience, 50mm is a bit close to 35mm. The 75mm Summarit is nice - seems like a good lens for a decent price. Though I've heard good things about the CV 75mm.

I had the last version 50mm Summicron and it was a great lens. I sold it to fund a 50 Summilux purchase. If I was buying a 50/2, I'd probably go with the ZM lens since its cheaper and supposedly really, really good. It sounds like its better than the 35/2 ZM lens, which I have and is great.

If you like the 35 asph look then I'd go for either the Planar 50, which I haven't had but like the look of the pics from or the Hex 50, which I have had and is fantastic and easily as good as a summicron. Build is as good as leica. The planar does seem to have it's fair share of quality control issues with loose or slack focus rings etc.
If you fancy a totally different look to the 35 asph then go for a pre asph summilux 50, which I had and after working out it's foibles grew to love. Treated as an f2 lens as maximum I think it's a beauty of a lens. Close focus I always felt was a bit hit and miss wide open though.

I have the same camera and lens. I also have the Summicron f2 50mm, which I *never* use. I use the 35mm exclusively. If I were going to get something else, I'd probably get a wider angle... but for now, I'm very content with what I've got.

If you like low-light shots then a faster lens than f2 may be useful, in which case a 50/1.5 CZ Sonnar, or older 50/1.4 Summilux would be a good choice.

Also consider the VC 50/1.5 Nokton which I don't know but has a good reputation here. You could probably get a new Nokton plus new CZ 75mm for the same as one new CZ Planar.

I about never use my 50mm Summicron. I should probably just sell it. Kill two birds with one stone and get a 90 Elmarit. The second stone? It replaces the dual range feature of the Dual-Range Summicron. The 90's at their closest focusing distance cover exactly the same area as the Dual-Range Summicron with the eyes in place. If you need more speed get an 85mm f/2 Nikkor. Save your money for film.

The combination of a 35 and a 75 works well. the 75 becomes a long "normal". It does depend on your budget of course, but the best overall has to be the 75f2 Apo-Asph. Until the recent Leica M lenses (21'24 f1.4 and the 24f3.8) the two unbeatable lenses from Leica were the 50f1.4 Asph and the 75mm f2.0 Apo-Asph. The 75f1.4 is extremely good, but not the easiest lens to get along with. You often have to calibrate the body to it and it can still show some "focus shift". When it works, it is incredible, but you also spend a lot of time swearing at it.
I did try the 75f2.5 Summarit and liked it. It is midway in performance between the Heliar 75f2.5 and the Summicron 75. Not as sharp at f2.5 as the Summicron is at f2 (but then I don't think many lenses are). It is also reasonably compact compared to the 75f2 and 75f14.
The "unknown" would be the new 85f4 TeleTessar for the ZM. I did shoot a handful of frames with it at Photokina and it looks good at F4 (yes, I know it is slow!). I think that Zeiss did it as a companion to the C Biogon 35f2.8 and set out to do a couple of compact lenses with no compromises as to performance and sacrificed the speed instead.

Perhaps ypou should keep in mind that the great majority of M cameras out there do not have a 75mm frame line, so you're out of luck if you want to buy an older body like an M2, M3, or M4 as a second camera.

75 Summilux. Perfect "fast" combo.

Roland.

Agreed.
This focal length and the 35 marry well together. Out of all the 75s one can get, the summilux 75 has the most unique signature. If you are after a unique glow to your 75 FL. shots, give it a look. Like most 75s, though, the summilux 75 is a big bertha 😉 But it produces images that make me murmur 'wow' to myself; I think that is the highest praise one can confer on a lens ;p

Though I do recommend the 35/75 focal length combination, even if it isn't with a big bertha.

I have an M6 with the same lens myself. I also have the 15 and the 90 CV lenses.. I use the 35 90% of the time, but then I would say I probably use the 15 about 8% and the 90 the remaining 2%. I originally thought my ideal system would be the 35 and the 90 summicron. I think if I had a faster 90 I'd probably use that lens a lot for portraits and things, but I have to admit at this moment in time, I am craving a 50mm in the 1.4 or 1.5 range. I can't afford more than about $300-400 so I am looking at the CV 50 nokton myself.

My reason is that I am looking for shallow DOF. I find that I am really hurting when it comes to doing a lot of candid shots in low light. The 35 will give me nice shallow dof if I get close to something, but often I am in a restaurant or pub or something wishing I could reach just a little further away and get the nice bokeh in a candid portrait.. The 75 would be really nice for me, but I don't want the CV because 2.5 is to slow for me and the Leica's are well out of my price range! The 50 seems the next best thing to me.
