M7 DX reader

Thanks again. All this information will be very useful in my discussions with the dealer later today.
Regards, Chris

My M7 has the original DX-reader and never failed in any way. How many did fail? Is the problem as big as people think?
Of course, if the M7 was sold as having the optical reader and it hasnt you have a reason to complain.

Cheers,

Well, the M7 is back and has had the carbon track behind the DX dial replaced. The problem seems to be solved. Time to use some film I think.

The carbon track...

I think that may end up being the problem with mine, as spinning the DX dial often clears it up for a while. Did you get, or does anyone else have more info on this carbon track?

I think it seems to be an area where dust etc. can get in and cause havoc. In my case, it appears to have been more serious, as the track was replaced. Perhaps the debris had caused wear? To answer another point, yes, I suppose it was quick but it seemed frustratingly long to me as I'd only had the camera a week. If it had taken any longer, the dealer was prepared to loan me an M7. Good service I think.
Out of interest, it cost the dealer £40. I don't know how much I would have been charged had it not been under warranty.
