A we all know, when you turn on the M7 the first thing you see is the ISO of you film setting. I always set my ISO manually so I can push or pull according to light conditions. Then when I turned on the meter I would see 200 or 800 ISO. Now it only shows the ISO of the film canister (400) no matter where I place the wheel on the back of the body. How did that happen? How do I "turn off" the DX reader? It is not set to DX.🙁

I'm only guessing, but what if the contacts from the rear door were not making a good electrical connection? The rear door has the ISO dial, and if this signal is not being processed the default might be to go to the reader.

Next I would suspect the ISO dial. Try rotating through all the settings back and forth. My experiance with electronics is about 80-85% electronics problems simply are electrical connections.

M7

I just checked my M7's and I have the iso set to 250 even though I am using a 400 speed film. One of my bodies still flashed 400 when I turn it on and the other body read 250 in the viewfinder.A while ago I brought it in to Leica in NJ and they said it was normal to still show the asa of the film. A dot shows next to the shutter speed in the viewfinder to show that it isnt set to the DX speed. Now I am confused too, why one body reads one way and the other different, although on checking the shutter speed they both check out the same. I couldnt find the answer in the manual

I just took film out of the camera and now when I turn it on it reads 250 as I have set on the back dial. So one of my M7's acts like yours. Wierd!

Received this on another forum:
Further to my post (which was rather hurried) I don't think your M7 is "acting funny". If you use a DX coded film the viewfinder display will always show the speed detected. It will be steady if the ISO dial is set to DX and will flash if set to any other setting (it will also be steady if you set the film speed to the same rating as the DX code, i.e. 200 for 200). After 2 seconds the display will show the shutter speed if the shutter speed dial is set to "A" or the dot and arrows if set to a set speed. Look at page 81 of the instruction book which explains it fully. The only time the viewfinder display should show your set film speed is with a non DX coded film.
My response:
Yep sure enough, you are 100% correct. All is good.

Interesting. My m7 has always done that. No matter where my meter is set, when turned on, Dx read ISO always flashes before going to the meter settings..
