I have seen a few beautiful samples online of photos taken with the Jupiter 3 f 1.5 wide open on the M8 and M9 and I thought it would be interesting to see some pics from RFF members. From what I see, this lens has beautiful bokeh and color, but not a modern look. Perfect for portraits where the subject likes a softer less harsh look not offered in modern lens designs.

What blows me away is the cheap price of the Jupiter 8 and how lovely it's rendering characteristics are. It is also nice to see many who do use lenses based on the "look" they create rather than brand and price. We all know what the M8 and M9 cost. I find it refreshing to see Russian and other cheaper alternatives used for creative reasons.

I meant Jupiter 3, not Jupiter 8 in one paragraph. Typing on my IPhone sometimes creates mistakes!!! I have the J8 and it is a great lens as well, but it is not f1.5.

Hope that's ok with you:

I just realized I've posted hardly no J-3 shots on my flickr account. Oh well..

M8 + J-3 "Brianov"

I primarily shoot with mine in the studio, where there's not a ton of bokeh to be seen.
But here are few with my J-3.

And ok, no bokeh. But I like the shot....

Another with the 1955/1983 Hybrid J-3, wide-open.

This lens has been on my M8 constantly. The focus is perfect on it.

another at f1.5,

100% crop

Not sure if you found my J3 gallery online. Anyway, I just went nuts and uploaded a lot of new shots.

All from the J3 on an M9. All images straight out of camera, except for the first 4 which have been processed in LR3 - just to show how well these low contrast lenses take to digital post processing. Almost all shots wide open or at f/2.
I have taken my lens apart and made the minimum focus modification (1m was just not close enough for me).
Here is an example pushing my personal limits: 1/15 sec, wide open, minimum focus distance, ISO 2500.

The hood is essential - but back light can still ruin a shot. This is the "dark side" of this lens.

I like them all!

I like them all!

Mainly because it just shows to go you that you do not need a totally
stupidly overpriced lens to take a real photograph! Thanks much.
